Disney+ moved up Star Wars’ upcoming High Republic animated series’ release date ahead of the franchise’s “May the 4th” celebrations. Since Disney bought Lucasfilm, it became common for Star Wars to premiere new content on May 4 as a way to commemorate Star Wars Day. It will be no different in 2023, although Star Wars’ upcoming schedule of releases for May 4 has just changed.

Originally set to premiere on May 4, 2023, Star Wars: Young Jedi Adventures will now release on April 26 (via Disney+). All Star Wars: Young Jedi Adventures episodes will drop on Disney+ at the same time, and the animated High Republic-era show is being described as a series of shorts aimed at younger audiences. With Young Jedi Adventures dropping on April 26, Star Wars: Visions season 2 will be the franchise’s big release for Star Wars Day.

Disney+’s Upcoming Star Wars Shows Schedule Works Perfectly

Star Wars Visions season 2 studio roster.

The Mandalorian season 3 will air its final episode on April 19. With Young Jedi Adventures’ release date moving up a bit more than a week, Star Wars will have new, properly spaced-out content releasing each week between now and the “May the 4th” celebrations. The Mandalorian season 3’s finale’s Star Wars conversation can somewhat help Young Jedi Adventures, even though the shows are aimed at different audiences. In addition, Young Jedi Adventures will have its own time in the spotlight, rather than sharing it with Star Wars: Visions season 2.

Star Wars can usually be more creative and innovative when it comes to animated series, and the upcoming Young Jedi Adventures and Visions season 2 both prove it. The High Republic imprint – and Star Wars novels and comics, in general – often have specific releases for preschooler audiences, an approach that is now being incorporated into the TV format with Young Jedi Adventures. Star Wars: Visions, on the other hand, bends the rules of Star Wars canon with its anthology series of non-canon stories.

The TV format has always been good for Star Wars, a tradition now potentialized in the streaming era. Whereas new Star Wars movies can take years – sometimes decades – to release, the TV format means that there can be new Star Wars content almost every week. From Star Wars: The Bad Batch season 2 and The Mandalorian season 3 to Star Wars: Young Jedi Adventures and Star Wars: Visions 2, Star Wars is having a strong early 2023 ahead of "May the 4th."
