Disenchanted is the latest Disney+ sequel coming to the queue in 2022. In 2007, Disney introduced Enchanted — a satirical spin on the fairytale trope by introducing an animated princess named Giselle as she's transported from a magical animated world to the present day. She then had to learn what it was like being a human in New York as opposed to being a princess in Andalasia. Enchanted soon became one of the best live-action/animated hybrid movies and is beloved by many.

According to Digital SpyDisenchanted is supposedly being released in the fall of 2022. Since the original movie came out in October of 2007, it's assumed Disenchated would come out around the holiday season as well.

Unlike Enchanted, the sequel will not be in theatres. Instead, it will be exclusively on Disney+. To get Enchanted fans excited about the sequel, Amy Adams (Giselle) and Patrick Dempsey (Robert) announced that fans can now watch Enchanted on Disney+ and to look out for the second movie in the future.

Giselle And Robert Move To The Suburbs

While Enchanted showed Giselle traveling from Andalasia to New York City and falling in love with Robert instead of Prince Edward, the sequel will be completely different.

In Disenchanted, Giselle and Robert are married and they decided to move from the city to the suburb of Monroeville. Monroeville is supervised by the villainous Malvina Monroe, who has it out for Giselle's family. When things got worse, Giselle's intentional spell for a fairytale life goes awry and it's up to her to save her family.

Why It Took 15 Years To Get A Sequel

It's rare for a sequel to come out 15 years after the original movie. In an interview with PeopleJames Marsden (Prince Edward) explained that the sequel took so long to come out because of differences in the possible script.

Marsden said, "I think maybe for a year or two, there were conversations about what [a second movie] would look like and what the story would be. But for some reason, it just didn't happen." He continued saying, "I don't know really why. And I was told over the years that they were trying to get it made and trying to get the script written. And finally, they got it together and I was happy to jump back into the crazy suits and swing the sword again." Because of how much time went by, Enchanted fans hope the sequel is better than its predecessor.

The Main Cast Is Returning

Enchanted was a fun fairytale movie set in the modern-day. Watching Giselle act like an animated Disney princess in a busy city like New York City brought on a lot of looks from strangers and funny moments. By the end of the film, she was acting more human-like but still had the whimsy of a Disney princess in love.

Luckily for fans, they get to continue Giselle's story in the sequel because Amy Adams and Patrick Dempsey are returning. As is James Marsden and Idina Menzel. However, it looks like a new actress, Gabriella Baldacchino, has replaced Robert's daughter Morgan.

Idina Got Her Own Song

Idina Menzel alongside James Marsden in Enchanted

Idina Menzel is an iconic actress and singer known for her time on Broadway. Most of Idina Menzel's best performances are when she's able to sing. Despite her amazing voice, Idina didn't have her own song in Enchanted. As a Broadway star, fans felt like they missed out.

However, in an interview with People, Marsden assured fans that Idina has her musical moments in the sequel. "It was a crime that in the first film, she's in a movie musical and you have Idina Menzel, and she doesn't sing a note," Marsden stated. "We've raised the bar by giving her some big, Stephen Schwartz, Alan Menken ... I can't say too much about what she sings, but original music, I'll say."

And There Are More Musical Elements

Idina Menzel isn't the only one with a new song in Disenchanted, it looks like there are going to be more musical numbers than the original. US Today noted that the original lyricists and composers, Alan Menken and Stephen Schwartz, are back in the sequel and created some Disney-worthy numbers.

Amy Adams said on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, “There’s a lot more singing and a lot more dancing — which was humbling.” With more music and dance numbers. here's hoping Disenchanted is one of the best musicals of the 2020s.

Another actress joining the cast is Maya Rudolph. Some of Rudolph's best roles included her time in Bridesmaids and Luca. The actress is set to play the movie's villain, Malvina Monroe.

In Enchanted, the villain was Prince Edward's stepmother, Queen Narissa. She didn't want Giselle to marry Edward, so she did everything she could to kick her out of their fictional world of Andalasia. In the sequel, Rudolph is ready to be the new villain and said, via People, "What's a good fairy tale without a great villain? I'll see you in Andalasia my pretties...."

The Cast Wrapped Up Filming In Ireland

A small behind-the-scenes fact about the making of Enchanted's sequel is that they finished filming in Ireland, according to People. Since the movie takes place in New York City and the surrounding suburbs, it looks like they transformed parts of Ireland into the new suburb.

According to US Magazine, "Disenchanted will be shot on location in Ireland, specifically in Wicklow and the areas around it. The village of Enniskerry has now become the suburb of Monroeville."
