After fifteen years, Disenchanted provides fans with the long-overdue sequel to Disney's hit fairy tale film, Enchanted. The film explores what life after "happily ever after" might truly look like, especially after a malevolent entity seeks to change the ending of Giselle and Robert's fairy tale ending.

Disenchanted features a host of iconic returning characters, as well as several brand-new personalities, who all must grapple with the rising darkness in their lives. Some characters surprise viewers with their capacity for evil, while others let their goodness shine through in the end.

10 Morgan Philip

Morgan in Disenchanted

Gabriella Baldacchino portrays Morgan Philip, Robert's daughter from his first marriage, in Disenchanted, who is now a teenager struggling to acclimate to her new life in suburbia. No longer content with living her very own fairy tale princess life, she grows estranged from her stepmother Giselle, causing a rift in the family.

In more ways than one, Morgan is the true hero of Disenchanted. Not only does she fill the Cinderella archetype during the film's events, but it is also she who ultimately breaks the curse and returns to the natural order of things. Though she is plagued by quintessential teenage angst in the first act of the film, she does indeed prove to be the most heroic character in Disenchanted.

9 Prince Edward

The talented James Marsden returns as Prince Edward, who is now the king of Andalasia. He plays a far smaller role in the sequel than in Enchanted but still proves essential to the plot when he and his queen, Nancy, bring a magical wishing wand to Monroeville as a gift for their goddaughter, Sofia.

Though Edward is featured very little in Disenchanted, it is difficult to see even a glimmer of malice in the lovable king of Andalasia. He may not have the brightest mind in the film, but there is no denying the pure innocence of his character.

8 Robert Philip

Patrick Dempsey as Robert Philip in medieval garb in Disenchanted

Robert Philip, portrayed by Patrick Dempsey, is the true love of Giselle, who struggles with the idea of heroism in the real world. Throughout the film, he seeks to find his true calling in life, attempting to slay dragons and save distressed citizens in the way that Edward would in Andalasia.

Robert is as good-hearted as they come, though Disenchanted sees him struggle to put his good heart to use. He longs desperately to see himself rise to the same level of heroism as Edward, eventually finding his own way to help the people who need him the most.

7 Nancy Tremaine

Idina Menzel singing in Disenchanted

Idina Menzel returns as Nancy Tremaine, who is now married to Edward, making her the queen of Andalasia. She plays a much larger role in Disenchanted than in the original film, helping Morgan break the curse that Giselle accidentally unleashed on Monroeville.

Using the magical qualities of Andalasia and the benefits of a good song, Nancy proves essential in helping restore the world to its former glory, breaking the curse of Giselle's wish. Without malice or any hint of selfish motive, Nancy works for the greater good, becoming a fairy godmother of sorts to her goddaughter Morgan.

6 Tyson Monroe

Disenchanted Tyson smiles at Morgan

Kolton Stewart portrays the brand-new character of Tyson Monroe in Disenchanted. Tyson is the son of Monroeville's de facto leader, Malvina Monroe. During the film's events, he finds himself enamored with the new girl, Morgan Philip, and is dragged into the fairy tale world that her family brings to the town.

Though Tyson doesn't really have much to do in Disenchanted, it is nevertheless quite clear that he doesn't share the same wicked tendencies as his mother. In fact, he ultimately fills the role of "Prince Charming" in the film, turning out to be the noble love interest for Morgan by the movie's end. While he may not be as heroic as certain other characters in the film, he certainly isn't aligned with the evil forces therein either.

5 Ruby

Disenchanted: Ruby (Jayma Mays) makes a face at Rosaleen

Jayma Mays joins the Enchanted franchise as Ruby, one of Malvina's minions, both in Monroeville and Monrolasia. She and her partner-in-crime, Rosaleen, do Mavlina's bidding, helping keep the town under her thumb as best they can.

As one of the minions of the film's main villain, Ruby finds herself on the side of evil, especially after the curse falls on Monroeville. While she often acts wickedly, Ruby does seem to comprehend the consequences of her actions far less than her conspirators, making it somewhat easy to excuse her for everything she's done during the events of the film.

4 Rosaleen

Disenchanted: Rosaleen (Yvette Nicole Brown) eyes Malvina's comfortable chair

Yvette Nicole Brown portrays the brand-new character of Rosaleen in Disenchanted. Along with Ruby, Rosaleen acts as one of Malvina Monroe's henchmen, carrying out her will in Monroeville. She also proves to be the more competent of Malvina's two minions, finding herself generally more successful in her endeavors than Ruby.

Though Ruby would contest it, Rosaleen is undeniably Malvina's chief minion, who is far more capable of carrying out her boss's will than her partner-in-crime. While Disenchanted's ending shows that Rosaleen and her friends aren't truly evil in the real world, they nevertheless act quite villainous when under the influence of Giselle's curse.

3 Pip

Pip the chipmunk in Enchanted.

Pip is Giselle's lovable chipmunk friend from Analasia who returns to visit his friend in the real world of suburban Monroeville. However, after Giselle's magical wish goes awry, turning the entire world into a fairy tale land, Chip finds himself turning into an evil cat.

Though Pip has historically been a force for good in Andalasia, Disenchanted finds Giselle's rodent companion discover a far darker side to himself as a result of the curse. As he begins to adopt the qualities of a cat, he comes to resemble the quintessential animal sidekick of Cinderella's wicked stepmother, going to great lengths to ensure that Giselle's wicked schemes go unencumbered.

2 Giselle Philip

Giselle as a wicked stepmother

Amy Adams returns once more as Giselle, the lovable almost-princess from Andalasia that fell in love with the real world--and Robert Philip. However, during the events of Disenchanted, Giselle finds herself slowly transformed into a darker version of herself, becoming the perfect picture of a wicked stepmother.

In what is sure to go down as one of Amy Adams's best performances in recent years, Giselle struggles with her darker half throughout the film, often switching back and forth between her typical demeanor and her wicked stepmother personality. The one-time heroine very nearly destroys the entirety of Andalasia with her wicked musings, even subjugating her beloved daughter to abusive chores in order to keep her from the town's upcoming festival.

1 Malvina Monroe

Malvina Monroe as an Evil Queen in Disenchanted

Maya Rudolph joins Disenchanted as Malvina Monroe, the sequel's chief antagonist. Malvina is the socialite leader of Monroeville, keeping its citizens under her thumb using the help of her two minions, Rosaleen and Ruby. After Giselle's wish, however, Malvina becomes a magical evil queen, who is desperate to keep the curse over Monroeville from being broken.

Though Disenchanted features several evil characters, Malvina is surely the most wicked of them all. She goes to great lengths to keep the curse on Monroeville from being lifted, claiming that she enjoys this new world more than the old one. Her schemes very nearly result in the destruction of Andalasia and everyone in it, though the heroes eventually save the day. As evil as she can be, however, even Malvina is shown to have a lighter side in the film's final scenes, showing that none of the characters is completely wicked after all.
