Sundance Now and Shudder will bring the adaptation of A Discovery of Witches to North American audiences in early 2019, according to an official release. The series, adapted from the All Souls novels by Deborah Harkness, premiered last month in the U.K., leaving fans of the series across the pond out of the loop, so to speak. But now it looks as though subscribers to AMC’s niche streaming horror service and those who get Sundance Now will have an opportunity to binge the series when it finally hits U.S. and Canada early next year.

As streaming services and cable networks scramble to compete with one another in the content arena, nabbing A Discovery of Witches may be a key part in the future of both Sundance Now and Shudder. Now that more and more providers are interested in building libraries of content that will sustain new and repeat viewers for years to come, the addition of this adaptation of Harkness’ work may give parent company AMC the edge it needs in an increasingly competitive market.

The series certainly looks impressive and has a cast to match, with Matthew Goode starring as the vampire Matthew Clairemont, and Teresa Palmer (Warm Bodies) as Diana Bishop. The rest of the cast includes Game of Thrones alum Owen Teale and Doctor Who’s Alex Kingston. Check out a trailer and synopsis below:

“Based on the bestselling and critically-acclaimed novel of the same name by Deborah Harkness, “A Discovery of Witches” is an enchanting modern-day love story set against the backdrop of Oxford academic life. Historian Diana Bishop (Palmer), a reluctant witch denying her heritage, accidentally discovers a long-lost bewitched manuscript in Oxford’s Bodleian Library, and is immediately thrown into the heart of a dangerous underworld. On her journey, she finds herself tossed into the path of enigmatic vampire and geneticist, Matthew Clairmont (Goode), who hides a dark family secret.”

As you can no doubt tell from the trailer and the description, A Discovery of Witches checks a lot of boxes. With a good-looking cast and a story that blends supernatural elements and romance, the series aims to deliver more of what fans of Twilight and Outlander want. With both of those series being impressive hits, it stands to reason that Shudder and Sundance Now may find increased interest headed their way come 2019.
