Nightwing's very first costume was a disco-inspired outfit that in retrospect was kind of chic for a superhero. Before he became Nightwing, Dick Grayson was the original Robin, and many other characters have donned that mantle over the years, including Jason Todd, Tim Drake, and Damien Wayne. Dick Grayson famously left Batman's side to strike out and become his own superhero Nightwing.

Robin has had mixed fortunes in live-action. The character was supposed to appear in both 1989's Batman and Batman Returns, only to be written out of the scripts when he was deemed unnecessary. Marlon Wayans was cast in the latter film and attended costume fittings, only to be told the part had been cut. Wayans was also contracted to return for Batman Forever, only to be replaced by Chris O'Donnell; thankfully, Wayans was still paid thanks to his contract. O'Donnell would play Dick Grayson in both Forever and Batman & Robin. There was also talk of a solo spinoff for the character, but the negative response to the latter entry quickly killed those plans.

The most recent live-action take on Robin was played by Brenton Thwaites in TV series Titans. Sadly, Grayson's Nightwing has yet to be realized in a movie, though The LEGO Batman Movie director Chris McKay was attached to a planned DCEU entry at one point. Nightwing has become a famed superhero in his own right, with Grayson stepping out from under the wing of his former mentor. He and Batman have still worked together to solve cases in the comics, and Grayson also donned the cape and cowl himself when Bruce Wayne disappeared and was assumed dead. While Nightwing might be cool now, one thing fans may forget is that his first outfit had a decidedly disco feel to it.

Nightwing's original disco outfit was a mix of blue, yellow, and had a generous flipped collar. This design was very much a product of its era and doesn't look all that hip in a modern era. That said, it's not like the original Robin outfit was that cool to start with, and while Nightwing's first costume may not have aged well, it's kind of a chic suit for a superhero.

Nightwing's costume would soon evolve into a stylish, toned down costume with his symbol across the chest. The disco Nightwing would never fly in a modern comic or live-action version, but it was an important step in Dick Grayson asserting his independence and while fans might make fun of it now, it had a certain style too.
