Every season, Fortnite players can look forward to a few secrets or hidden challenges each week that can award a little extra XP. None of these challenges is particularly taxing, making them great opportunities to add XP to their Battle Pass. This season, the Gnomes from Season 2 have made a comeback, and they are hinting at something big. Back in Season 2, the Gnomes and Teddy Bears engaged in an epic battle that operated on the periphery of the season’s events. Players helped them out to earn more XP. This season, players have been able to find Gnomes in front of billboards advertising Slurp Juice.

This week, the secret Gnome challenge has players finding and disarming Gnome traps. These are Super Slurp canisters rigged with dynamite, and at each location, a Gnome has gotten a little too close to the trap for comfort. While this could have something to do with the Teddy Bears making a comeback or a devious Gnome found in the second part of the quest, it could also be a clever play on words to advertise the upcoming in-game music video from Korean boy band BTS, as “Dynamite” is the name of one of their songs. In any case, players will find five of these dynamite traps scattered across the map and must disarm them all. For their trouble, they will earn an extra 20,000 XP toward their Battle Pass. Here's how to find and disarm the traps in Fortnite Season 4.

Find and Disarm Gnome Traps in Fortnite Season 4

Map locations of all Gnome Traps in Fortnite Season 4

The map above shows the locations of all the Gnome Traps. Players will find a trap at the following spots:

  • Sweaty Sands: The eastern side of town, near a high-rise building.
  • Craggy Cliffs: On the northern part of town, by the beach, under the patio of the large building.
  • Holly Hedges: Near the nursery where players rescue Baby Groot, near the warehouse.
  • Misty Meadows: Under the bridge over the river, on the eastern side.
  • Steamy Stacks: In the northern stack, on the ground floor.

To disarm the traps, players only need to get close and use the button prompt to interact with it. Disarming the first trap will officially unlock the challenge for the player and track progress. It is possible players may be able to complete this challenge in Squads, with the team splitting up to make it more efficient and disarm the traps quickly. After the last trap is disarmed, players will earn 20,000 XP.

A player finds a lair east of Weeping Woods where a devious Gnome is surrounded by Slurp Juice ads and plans in Fortnite Season 4

The Gnomes also have a Lair that players can enter as part of the secret challenge. Completing this part will also grant another 20,000 XP, and with XP being more important than ever this season to unlock all the Marvel-themed goodies, players should plan to uncover this secret too.

Players will find the Lair east of Weeping Woods at D5. They will need to enter through the east side door and enter the air duct grate for a surprise: A Gnome surrounded by Slurp Juice, robots, and a board covered with plans. This will award the player their 20,000 XP and conclude the secret challenge.

These two parts can be completed in any order, but players will need to be sure to finish them before they disappear on October 13.
