Dirty Grandpa uses a number of different locations for its road trip comedy story. In Dirty Grandpa, Jason Kelly (Zac Efron) embarks on a trip with his grandfather Dick (Robert DeNiro) after the passing of his wife, with the two crossing paths with a group of college students on spring break. After Dick strikes up a dalliance with Lenore (Aubrey Plaza) he convinces Jason to take him to the group's destination of Daytona Beach to pursue the romance with Lenore, who is under the impression that Dick is a college professor.

Dirty Grandpa is as raunchy a comedy as they come, with reviews being anything but kind to the movie in its 2016 release. Daytona Beach in Florida serves as the primary setting for the antics of DeNiro's character and the others. That said, filming never took place there. Production of the movie actually took place in other locations far removed from it. Here are the filming locations of Dirty Grandpa.

2 Metro Atlanta, Georgia

The Atlanta metropolitan area is one of the main filming locations used for Dirty Grandpa. That fits with the story, as Efron's character is shown to work as a lawyer in the Atlanta area at the beginning. Two particular areas of Atlanta serve as Dirty Grandpa's location shooting in the city, namely Riverside and Atlanta's Grand Atrium. In addition to Atlanta proper, the city of McDonough, Georgia also is another reported location used by Dirty Grandpa.

Additionally, Hampton, Georgia, also located in the Metro Atlanta area, is another location where parts of Dirty Grandpa was shot. Due to Georgia's tax incentive for film productions, the state as a whole and Atlanta specifically have become very popular spots for movies and TV shows to do location shooting, so this is likely one of the main reasons the Atlanta metropolitan area was so heavily utilized by Dirty Grandpa.

1 Tybee Island, Georgia

In addition to Atlanta, Tybee Island, Georgia is another primary location visited by Dirty Grandpa's cast and crew, with Tybee Island serving as a stand-in for the movie's Daytona Beach scenes. Tybee Island's main street along with its beach pier are both featured in the finished film, with the spring break party scenes also using Tybee's beach extensively.

Tybee Island sits on the Georgia coast just below the border to South Carolina and about 17 miles from the neighboring Savannah, Georgia, and is a popular summer resort for local residents. Other movies to have filmed on Tybee Island include the Miley Cyrus-led The Last Song, the Dwayne Johnson 2017 comedy Baywatch, and the Will Smith sci-fi movie Gemini Man, along with Cobra Kai season 2, episode 4. As for the chances of the Dirty Grampa cast heading back there, Dirty Grandpa 2 is unlikely to happen, meaning that the movie will likely be Jason, Dick, and Lenore's first and last trip to Tybee Island.
