This week:

The Dirty Dancing remake is “like the wind” – it’s blown away; when John Madden met Charlize Theron it was Murder; Bill Paxton gets armed and dangerous with 2 Guns and we’ve had Skyfall and Skyline, now get ready to fly with D.B. Cooper in Skyjack.

It must have been divine intervention by the movie gods – the Dirty Dancing remake has been ‘put in the corner’ until at least 2014.

Dirty Dancing remake delayed Movie News Wrap Up: June 16, 2012

This may disappoint some who wanted to have the time of their lives while watching Johnny and Baby dance dirty again, but most sensible movie fans must be breathing a sigh of relief.

It is believed that director Kenny Ortega couldn’t put together a decent Johnny and Baby combo, despite screen-testing Lea Michele, Liana Liberato, Nikki Yanofsky, Luke Grime, Justin Gaston and Dancing With the Stars’ Derek Hough.

Who knew that a movie delay could cause so much joy?

The Best Exotic Marigold director John Madden looks set to direct Charlize Theron in Murder Mystery.

James Vanderbilt (The Amazing Spider-Man) wrote the script for the Mediterranean set action-comedy, which pays “homage to Agatha Christie-style thrillers.”

This could be great – if the casting is good, and there’s no reason to expect otherwise considering that Madden is something of a thespian magnet.

Bill Paxton will join Denzel Washington and Mark Wahlberg in director Baltasar Kormakur’s 2 Guns.

Movie News Wrap Up: June 16, 2012

The thriller follows a “DEA agent and an undercover naval intelligence officer who unwittingly investigate each other as each steals mob money. Paxton will play a high ranking CIA operative.”

Paxton is hot off the record breaking success of the western mini-series Hatfields and McCoys and a supporting role in Steven Soderbergh’s little seen (but really quite good) Haywire.

Game over man, game over.

Director Will Gluck looks set to helm a screen adaptation of Geoffrey Gray’s novel Skyjack: The Hunt For D.B. Cooper.

D.B.Cooper movie Skyjack Movie News Wrap Up: June 16, 2012

According to Deadline:

“The Skyjack novel is an action-comedy that follows the story of D.B. Cooper, who on November 24, 1971, hijacked a Boeing 727, demanded $200,000 and parachutes, and jumped out over the Pacific Northwest. He was never caught and hailed as a folk hero. The book tracks his story from the perspectives of three different people claiming to be him.”

The D.B. Cooper story is pretty phenomenal (read about it here), but I don’t think that an action-comedy is the way to go. In fact, the tale is so rich that it would make a heck of a television series – then again, what do I know?

CBS Films is behind Skyjack – which is set to be scripted by Keith Bunin.
