Who's in the Dickinson cast, and where have you seen them before? The surrealistic black comedy series is part of Apple TV+'s November 2019 launch lineup, and is (loosely) based on the life of 19th century American poet Emily Dickinson.

Dickinson follows the younger years of the title character as she explores her creativity and sexuality. The series was created by Alena Smith, and features epiodes directed by both David Gordon Green and Lynn Shelton. Described as having "a modern sensibility and tone," Dickinson incorporates modern music and slang in order to fully convey the concepts and issues that young Emily grapples with.

  • Hailee Steinfeld as Emily Dickinson: The series lead and title character. Hailee Steinfeld delivered a breakthrough performance in True Grit, and has become best known for starring in The Edge of Seventeen, Bumblebee, and the Pitch Perfect franchise. She also voiced Gwen Stacy aka Spider-Woman in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.
  • Ella Hunt as Sue Gilbert: Emily's best friend, who has had a significantly different upbringing. Ella Hunt starred as Ellie Marsden in Cold Feet, and previously appeared in the movies Les Misérables. She portrayed the title character in Anna and the Apocalypse.
  • Toby Huss as Edward Dickinson: Emily's academic father, who brags about his essay "On the Proper Place of Women." Toby Huss portrayed John Bosworth in Halt and Catch Fire, and voiced numerous character in King of the Hill.
  • Jane Krakowski as Mrs. Dickinson: Emily's lively mother. An accomplished comedic performer, Jane Krakowski starred as Jenna Maroney in 30 Rock. She also portrayed Jacqueline White in Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt.
  • Anna Baryshnikov as Lavinia Dickinson: Emily's mischievous sister. The daughter of famous ballet dance Mikhail Baryshnikov, Anna Baryshnikov has appeared in Manchester by the Sea and The Kindergarten Teacher.
  • Adrian Enscoe as Austin Dickinson: Emily's brother, who romances his sister's best friend, Sue. Adrian Enscoe is best known for performances in Groove and Seeds.

  • Samuel Farnsworth as George Gould: Part of Emily's literary club. This is Farnsworth's first role in a TV drama.
  • Wiz Khalifa as Death: The human embodiment of death itself that captivates Emily. Wiz Khalifa is best known for his hip-hop career.
  • Gus Halper as Joseph Lyman: A brooding Dickinson party guest who keeps lockets of hair. Gus Halper portrayed Erik Menendez in Law & Order True Crime, and recently appeared in the movie Cold Pursuit.
  • Amanda Warren as Betty: A dress-maker. Amanda Warren portrayed Jane Barbour in The Purge TV series, Lucy Warburton in The Leftovers, and Mayor Zahra Taylor in NCIS: New Orleans.
  • Gus Birney as Jane Humphrey: A Dickinson party guest who warns Austin about Emily and Sue's secret romance. Gus Birney portrayed Birdie in Jessica Jones season 3, and previously starred as Alex Cunningham-Alex Copeland in The Mist.
  • John Mulaney as Henry David Thoreau: The famous American author. A former Saturday Night Live writer, John Mulaney is best known for his stand-up comedy specials, and for voicing Andrew Glouberman in Big Mouth.
  • Sophie Zucker as Abby Wood: A Dickinson party guest. Sophie Zucker had small roles in The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel and Late Night.
  • Allegra Heart as Abiah Root: A Dickinson party guest. Dickinson marks the first acting credit for Allegra Heart.
  • Kevin Yee as Toshiaki: A Dickinson party guest. Kevin Yee is best known for the Hulu comedy special Comedy Invasion.
  • Chinaza Uche as Henry: The star of Nigerian Prince, Chinaza Uche had a small role in The Blacklist season 6
  • Matt Lauria as Ben Newton: Best known as Luke Cafferty from Friday Night Lights, Matt Lauria portrayed Ryan Wheeler in Kingdom.
