Players of Diablo Immortal may have uncovered a bug that causes a huge reduction in the amount of XP players are actually gaining. The latest entry of the popular action RPG series has been its most controversial yet. Not only were fans of the franchise disappointed when it was first announced, as they were expecting more information on Diablo 4 instead, but the game’s monetization system has been accused of being predatory as well as pay-to-win. The furor over the latter has even led the game’s director Wyatt Cheng to defend the game, saying that Diablo Immortal’s microtransaction claims are misleading.

According to Cheng, the reports that Diablo Immortal players could or had to spend money to purchase gear were misleading, as both gear and EXP aren’t directly purchasable in Diablo Immortal. Cheng clarified that players are able to spend money on upgrading rare and Legendary gems, which are then attached to gear to increase their stats, modify skills, and more. Some other things players may purchase in the game include a premium battle pass tier, Legendary Crests for Elder Rifts, cosmetics, crafting resources, and more. Despite not being able to directly purchase gear and EXP, it’s been reported that it could cost players up to $110,000 to fully upgrade a Diablo Immortal character.

Reddit user staplepies (via GamesRadar) has shared that there may be a bug in Diablo Immortal that is reducing the experience players are gaining from both kills and EXP globes. According to staplepies, kills or XP globes are rewarding players less EXP than they should, which can go up to 50% less. Staplepies said that, under “normal” circumstances, players should receive the same amount of EXP from all mobs of a certain type. However, when the bug triggers, the EXP numbers start varying greatly from mob to mob. They’ve said that they “don’t fully understand why or when it will happen” and the frequency of which the bug occurs and the amount of variance in the EXP reduction seemingly changes from zone to zone as well as the time of day.

Diablo Immortal Bug Reduces XP from Kills and XP Globes

Since grinding EXP to raise one’s Paragon level is one of the Diablo Immortal activities after beating the game’s story, it’s definitely important that the amount players gain stays consistent and reliable. As such, staplepies has asked fellow players to try recreating and testing the bug to gain more information on it to bring to Blizzard’s attention. However, some have hypothesized that it may be an intended feature to limit the amount of EXP players are able to obtain in a certain amount of time or a falsely triggering anti-botting measure.

If it is a legitimate bug, hopefully Blizzard takes notice and fixes it soon as a bug that reduces the amount of EXP a player can earn is pretty serious. It was also just recently claimed that another EXP bug was affecting the game’s battle pass, preventing players from gaining battle pass EXP. Another one popping up so soon after isn’t a good look for Blizzard, even though Diablo Immortal had the franchise’s biggest launch.
