Of the six classes available in Diablo Immortal, the Wizard is one of the staple characters that has been around since the franchise's beginning. The Wizard uses magic skills and crowd control to attack from a safe distance, similar to the Demon Hunter's crossbow attacks. However, unlike other ranged classes, the Wizard is not effective at close range melee, so when choosing a build, prioritize high damage attacks with large areas of effect (AoE).

The Wizard Class first appeared as the sorcerer in the original Diablo and has been a character class ever since. The Wizard's primary focus is on spell-casting and often has the lowest starting health of any character class. All character classes in Diablo Immortal have a primary attack and four skills that can be periodically unlocked from levels 1 to 50. To best take advantage of the Wizard class, focus on high-damage AoE skills.

Unlike other classes in Diablo Immortal, a successful Wizard build focused on high damage ranged attacks, as the Wizard is notorious for having little health. Luckily, Diablo Immortal is not shy on health globes to replenish life, so take advantage of those drops. The Wizard has two potential primary attacks: Magic Missile, available from the beginning of the game, and Electrocute, locked until level 34. The best of the two is Magic Missile, which can be enhanced with 12 seconds of frost damage later in the game. The four best skills are harder to maneuver, as they require strategic use of cooldown timing supplemented with the primary attack.

Best All-Around Build for the Wizard in Diablo Immortal

Diablo Immortal: Wizard Class Guide (Skills, Builds, & Strategies)
  • Scorch (level 1): while it doesn't have a wide AoE, it does push out from the player in a burning trail that deals damage over six seconds. The cooldown for this skill is 9 seconds, and it can knock back enemies, similar to Diablo Immortal's Demon Hunter's Knockback Shot. As the Wizard works best from a distance, having a damage-inflicting skill that also pushes back enemies is crucial.
  • Arcane Wind (level 1): like Scorch, Arcane Wind is an early-game skill but has a wide triangular AoE that both deals damage and knocks back enemies. Arcane Wind also has a 9-second cooldown, but its unique feature is the ability to charge up the Wind to increase the range and knockback distance. It also has a secondary buff where it damages 50% more damage to enemies that are on fire, so coupled with Scorch, these two skills make a powerful one-two punch.
  • Teleport (level 15): Crucial to any basic build for a ranged character is the ability to run away. Teleport is the Wizard's first line of defense if enemies can get past the knockback skills of Scorch and Arcane Wind. It has a long, 15-second cooldown, but there are three charges to use for the Wizard to dash to safety. Teleport has been a Wizard staple since the original Diablo.
  • Meteor (level 41): Meteor is a powerful, damaging skill with a circular AoE. Once cast, the Meteor falls quickly from the sky to damage and stun all enemies within range. Once the enemies are stunned, the player can follow up with the Scorch-Arcane Wind combo to quickly reduce enemy HP.

The strategy behind this basic, all-around build in Diablo Immortal is to inflict damage through combination skill attacks like Scorch-Arcane Wind, deal heavy damage through the Meteor attack, and run away with Teleport when needed. Then, with the trustworthy Magic Missile to help during cooldown, enemies will be crushed by the magic might of the Wizard.

Once the player has all the above skills, certain legendary items can help increase damage power. In some cases, the player needs to extract power from Diablo Immortal legendary equipment to put into other items.

  • Windshaper: a main hand slot item that makes the Arcane Wind follows a target instead of staying in a straight line. The Arcane Wind whirlwind will continue to do damage on this path.
  • Starcaller's Drapery: a chest slot item that increases Meteor's radius by 20%.
  • Shoulders of the Cataclysm: a shoulder slot item that increases Meteor's damage by 10%.
  • Lyan's Resonant Wisdom: a helm slot item that causes storm cloud damage at the target location when Teleport is used.
  • Riftdancer's Stride: a leg slot item that causes damage when the player uses Teleport.

Other Notable Skills for the Wizard in Diablo Immortal

While this Diablo Immortal build is a good all-around setup for the Wizard, other skills are powerful and could be considered for players who want different types of attacks. Lightning Nova, which unlocks at level 3, sends lightning bolts in all directions from the player. This could be used in place of Scorch, as Scorch and Meteor are both fire-based attacks. The only difference is that Lightning Nova does not have a kickback. The Siphon item, which goes in the off-hand slot, will provide a 60% movement speed increase when using Lightning Nova. This is a viable alternative for a build that prioritizes damage and keeping distance from the enemy. If the player is looking for an alternative attack that draws enemies away, consider Black Hole. Other than having a cool name and implication, Black Hole does an excellent job of drawing enemies into a black hole. This not only keeps enemies away from the player for three seconds but also deals damage.

If all of this magic-balancing is confusing, consider switching Diablo Immortal character class to a tried and true melee, a hack-and-slash character like the barbarian. Sometimes, Diablo is most satisfying when players run into a crowd of enemies, sword raised high, and fight their way out.
