A new teaser for Showtime's upcoming Dexter revival hints at the return of the serial killer's son Harrison. Throughout its initial 8-season run, Dexter shocked and thrilled audiences with its tale of a forensic technician with a big secret. Michael C. Hall earned raves for his performance as Dexter Morgan, and the passion for the early seasons led to immense disappointment in the show's end. Dexter's series finale remains one of the most controversial conclusions in recent years, with Dexter faking his death, leaving his young son behind, and living as a lumberjack.

Finally, though, Dexter has the chance to fix what went wrong at the end of season 8. Last fall, Showtime announced the series would be getting a 10-episode revival. Hall is back as Dexter, while original showrunner Clyde Phillips has returned for the first time since leaving after season 4. So far, Hall is the only original cast member putting in a reprise, though he'll be joined by thrilling newcomers such as Clancy Brown and Jamie Chung.

The latest teaser for the Dexter revival just might hint at another major return. In a short clip posted to social media, an unseen person tosses a picture of Dexter and his son Harrison into a campfire, as if erasing all traces of the former's past life. "Wanna know a secret? Daddy kills people," the caption reads, making for an ominous post. Happy Father's Day indeed.

Despite being someone with an unquenchable thirst for murder, Dexter truly does care for his son. In fact, the original series often found Dexter concerned with the possibility that Harrison would follow in his footsteps and become a killer. When Dexter first came to an end, Harrison was still fairly young. However, by the time season 9 picks up, he should be a teen. That would make the realization of his father's true profession, as hinted in the above teaser, devastating. It could even set Harrison on his own dark path, thus fulfilling Dexter's worst fear.

Of course, this isn't explicit confirmation that Harrison will appear in Dexter season 9. Fans would likely want to see him to get some resolution to his relationship with Dexter, but with the titular killer off in a new location with a new identity, there might not be room for a Harrison reappearance. Dexter is expected to premiere on Showtime in the fall, so the coming months could provide some new hints about whether or not Harrison will be back. Fans will just have to keep their eyes peeled for further updates on the latest chapter in this dark story.
