Dexter Morgan's girlfriend in Dexter: New Blood is the police chief of the new town he is living in. The upcoming reboot brings back Michael C. Hall as the beloved title character he portrayed on eight seasons of the original series and showrunner Clyde Phillips, who served on the first half of the initial run. The limited series consists of ten episodes and takes place a decade after the finale saw Dexter fake his death to live in Oregon as a lumberjack leaving behind his son.

Dexter has left the West Coast behind in the revival and resides in the fictional Iron Lake in upstate New York, operating under an alias while interacting with a whole new group of people. There has already been a slew of new cast members confirmed for Dexter: New Blood, including Clancy Brown, Jamie Chung, Michael Cyril Creighton, Jack Alcott, and Julia Jones, with returns from Jennifer Carpenter, who portrayed Dexter's sister Debra, and John Lithgow, who played the Trinity Killer on season 4. Despite living a new life and settling into a town unlike his home back in Miami, some aspects for Dexter do not change.

During a Comic-Con @Home panel, Phillips revealed that Dexter would be dating the chief of police in Iron Lake, played by Jones. This would be the first relationship that Dexter will have with someone in law enforcement, which can present many opportunities, as Phillips explained:

"Dexter's girlfriend is the chief of police of the town, played by Julia Jones, and she's the first female police chief, she's the first person-of-color police chief...there's tension there between the town and her, but it also gives Dexter....access to certain pieces of information an ordinary citizen would not be able to get."

Dexter does tend to blend in very well with the people he meets, despite his social awkwardness, and is used to being surrounded by people working in the police department, as shown in his previous life as a blood-spatter analyst in Miami Metro. While it can be beneficial to Dexter to be close to the police chief and the various investigations, it also may serve as a life-altering detriment if his true identity is ever revealed. It is unknown how long he has been in this relationship, but it is almost certain that his girlfriend's job title will play a part in the storyline.

The fact that Dexter will have a close relationship with an officer of the highest authority in the town creates excitement for the reboot. It also brings back memories of when his sister Debra was the lieutenant of Miami Metro. The multiple teasers, including a peek at the series, show hints of Dexter's Dark Passenger reemerging and have given viewers a promising glimpse of what will come of the revival. It will be interesting to see where Dexter's relationship will go with his girlfriend when Dexter: New Blood premieres on Showtime on November 7.
