Showtime's Dexter is set to return, and his son, Harrison, may be an even more terrifying killer than him in the reboot. In 2006, the dramedy first introduced Dexter Morgan (Michael C. Hall), a serial killer who targeted others like him, but who didn't abide by the same moral code. In his youth, the titular killer had been lucky: His adoptive father, Harry, had been aware of the homicidal darkness that Dexter harbored within. He gave him a set of rules to follow, where he would leave the innocent be and satiate his bloodlust with other murderers.

Over the course of the show's eight seasons, there was a wide array of changes in Dexter's life. One of the most significant developments was the birth of Dexter's son, Harrison (last portrayed by Jadon Wells), named after his late father. Tragically, to protect his son from himself and his "Dark Passenger" (which is what he called his compulsion to kill), the original, infamous series finale showed Dexter faking his own death, starting a new life, and leaving his son to be cared for by his trusted ally Hannah McKay.

Judging by the reboot teaser that dropped this past Father's Day, it's looking like Harrison is not only being brought back into the fold; it also seems as though he's finally going to discover Dexter's secret. Such a revelation will definitely have a profound impact on Harrison's psyche, but he's actually the character fans should be worried about. After all, there's a good chance Dexter passed on his Dark Passenger to his son. Harrison grew up without his mother or father, and wasn't taught a "code" like the one that Dexter was so lucky to have during his formative years. Harrison was thus left to his own devices, while possibly grappling with serious demons — it would be next to impossible for him to navigate life without major issues.

It's likely that Harrison picked up biological and/or behavioral traits from his father, but he also had a similar traumatic experience in childhood that mirrors Dexter's path, as well. As Dexter and his brother, Brian, sat in their murdered mother's blood inside of a shipping container for days, Harrison was also left in his mother's blood after she was fatally targeted by John Lithgow's Trinity Killer in season 4 of Dexter. The titular killer always assumed that the darkness inside him was ignited by the life-altering event, and was terrified that Harrison's experience might have the same kind of impact. And judging by some of the variables in his son's life, his anxieties may have been warranted.

In addition, Harrison likely spent the rest of his childhood and most of his adolescence after the series finale feeling abandoned. His mother had been murdered, and he probably believed the official narrative that his father had taken his own life. Both of those losses are brutal blows, only compounded by the tragic nature of their deaths — although viewers know Dexter's was fake. Harrison hasn't had much of a chance to feel secure in the world post-season 8 of Dexter, and if he ended up inheriting his father's compulsion to kill, he's even lacked extra crucial guidance. Combine all that with a lack of a code, a set of rules to live by when channeling possible inner darkness, the chance that Harrison will be an even more terrifying killer than Dexter in the reboot is highly plausible.
