The Dexter cast in Dexter: New Blood features a variety of returning and new actors as the vigilante serial killer returns to action. Dexter originally ran on Showtime from 2006 to 2013, following serial killer Dexter Morgan (Michael C. Hall) as he hides his secret life from those around him while feeding his murderous urges by hunting down known murderers. As a convenient cover-up for his blood obsession and criminal lifestyle, Dexter worked at Miami Metro Police Department as a blood-spatter analyst alongside his policewoman sister Deb (Jennifer Carpenter), Detective Angel Batista (David Zayas), and Captain Maria LaGuerta (Lauren Vélez).

The original series didn’t see too many recurring characters last very long, and with Dexter back to his usual habits of killing in his new home, many new fan favorites didn’t make it all the way through New Blood. Following the controversy of Dexter’s original season 8 finale, the cast and creators returned to amend the divisive ending and give Dexter Morgan a proper sendoff. In New Blood, Dexter lives under a new alias in Iron Lake, New York after stopping his murderous tendencies, though his dark passenger begins creeping back as a serial killer terrorizes his new home. Along with the return of his estranged son Harrison, Dexter struggles with trying to conceal his true identity and dark passenger from the new Dexter cast.

Michael C. Hall As Dexter Morgan

Original Dexter cast member Michael C. Hall returns to New Blood as the protagonist serial killer Dexter Morgan. Dexter is a vigilante serial killer who murdered his victims in Miami for years without being caught, following a strict code in which he can only kill known murderers that have escaped justice. Following Dexter’s season 8 finale in which he faked his death and abandoned his son, Harrison, Hall’s character has taken a hiatus from killing while living in the fictional town of Iron Lake. However, by the end of the season, Dexter's time had come to an end when he sacrificed his life to hopefully protect his son from living the same life he did.

While Hall is best known for playing Dexter Morgan, he’s also notable for starring as David Fisher in Six Feet Under, headlining on Broadway for Hedwig and the Angry Inch, and leading Netflix’s In The Shadow of the Moon.

Jennifer Carpenter As Debra Morgan

Main Dexter cast member Jennifer Carpenter returns in New Blood alongside Hall as Debra Morgan, Dexter’s adoptive sister. Deb was Dexter’s closest connection throughout his life but only found out he was a serial killer in Dexter season 7. The original series finale controversially saw Deb dying after a serious blood clot from being shot by a serial killer, leading Dexter to mercifully unplug her life support and dump her body in the ocean per his ritual. Deb’s role in New Blood has her taking over Harry’s job as Dexter’s dark passenger from the original series. While Deb is still dead in Dexter's new season, she serves as Dexter’s conscience through mental manifestations.

Deb’s actress Jennifer Carpenter has also notably starred in White Chicks, Limitless, and The Enemy Within, as well as voicing Sonya Blade in the Mortal Kombat Legends animated film series.

Jack Alcott As Harrison Morgan

Taking over the role in the Dexter cast from season 8’s Jadon Wells, Jack Alcott portrays Dexter’s son Harrison Morgan. Now a teenager, Harrison has tracked down his father to Iron Lake years after being abandoned by him in the season 8 finale. Searching for questions about why Dexter left and changed his name, Harrison reveals a subtle, reminiscent darkness as he acclimates to life in Iron Lake with his father. When Dexter realizes that his son has inherited his dark passenger, he has his son kill him to do the right thing and hopefully help Harrison escape the cycle of violence.

Jack Alcott is best known for starring in Showtime’s The Good Lord Bird as Jason Brown as well as his guest roles in The Blacklist and Champaign ILL. Since starring in the Dexter cast, Alcott had a guest role in Rian Johnson's streaming series Poker Face in 2023.

Julia Jones As Angela Bishop

New Blood's novel character Angela Bishop is portrayed by Twilight actress Julia Jones. Angela is the chief of police in Iron Lake and also happens to be dating Dexter. Along with raising her teenage daughter Audrey and investigating the new string of murders in Iron Lake. By the end of the season, Angela had to help save Harrison, and she took responsibility for Dexter's murder, while also revealing he was the Bay Harbor Butcher. Jones is best remembered for her roles as shape-shifting wolf Leah Clearwater in The Twilight Saga films, Kohana on Westworld season 2, and Stephanie Littlecrow on Goliath.

Johnny Sequoyah As Audrey Bishop

Up-and-coming actress Johnny Sequoyah portrays Angela’s rebellious teenage daughter Audrey Bishop in Dexter season 9. Audrey is a socially-conscious popular teen who particularly stands up for causes like the climate crisis and MMIW human-rights crisis. She befriends Harrison upon his arrival in Iron Lake, much to the dismay of her jock friends Zach and Scott. Sequoyah previously starred in NBC’s Believe as Bo Adams, while also having small roles in Among Ravens and American Housewife.

Clancy Brown As Kurt Caldwell

Accomplished actor Clancy Brown joined the Dexter cast as Kurt Caldwell, an antagonistic Iron Lake resident. As one of the wealthiest residents, Kurt holds a lot of power and sway over the town, which puts even more pressure on the police department when his troublesome son Matt goes missing. When Kurt learns Dexter killed his son, he mocks the "code" only to die at Dexter's hands. Brown is known for his roles as The Kurgan in Highlander, Charlie Zim in Starship Troopers, Jock in Billions, and voicing Mr. Krabs in Spongebob Squarepants. In 2023, he also took on the role as The Harbinger in John Wick: Chapter 4.

New Blood Supporting Cast & Characters

Steve M. Robertson as Matt Caldwell: New Blood's wealthy and irresponsible young Iron Lake resident who immediately antagonizes Dexter while trying to buy a gun, and soon goes missing. Robertson’s previous acting credits include Elementary, The Good Fight, and playing Ian on Channel Zero.

Alano Miller as Logan: A sharp Iron Lake police officer who also coaches wrestling at the high school. Miller is most notable for his role on Jane the Virgin as Aaron/Roman Zazo and his character Cato on WGN’s Underground.

Jamie Chung as Molly: A popular true-crime podcaster who comes to investigate the new murder in Iron Lake in the Dexter cast. Chung is best known for voicing Go Go in Big Hero 6, playing Blink/Clarice Fong in The Gifted, and starring as Ji-Ah in HBO’s Lovecraft Country.

Oscar Wahlberg as Zach: A popular wrestler interested in Audrey who has been catfishing Ethan. Zach is played by Oscar Wahlberg, nephew of Mark Wahlberg, whose previous credits include Manchester by the Sea, Daddy’s Home 2, and Slender Man.

Andrew Fama as Scott: Zach’s best friend and one of Audrey’s friends who wrestles on the Iron Lake team with Harrison in the Dexter cast. Fama previously acted in Dependence as Michael Thompson and Magic in Mount Holly as Dylan Palmer.

David Magidoff as Teddy Reed: The new officer at the Iron Lake Police Department. Magidoff has also been featured in The Morning Show as Nicky Brooks, Veronica Mars as Jeff Ratner, and Top Elf as Eggnog Shimmerhorn.

Christian Dell’Edera as Ethan: A shy teenager picked on by Zach who Harrison befriends at school in the Dexter cast. Dell’Edera has previously had small roles in the DC comics-based show Gotham and The Haunting Of.

Fredric Lehne as Edward: The wealthy oil-magnate in Iron Lake whose drilling and climate change denials lead him to be protested by teens in town. Lehne is well-known for his film roles in Men in Black and The Dark Knight Rises as well as his recurring television roles in Supernatural as Azazel, Lost as Marshal Mars, and American Horror Story as Frank McCann.

Katy Sullivan as Esther: The receptionist at Iron Lake Police Department. Sullivan previously played Taylor on NCIS: New Orleans, Tiffany on My Name Is Earl, and Dr. Alba on Station 19.

Michael Cyril Creighton as Fred Jr.: Dexter’s boss at Fred’s Fish and Game who inherited the shop from his father in the Dexter cast. Creighton is known for playing Joe Crowley in Spotlight, Howard Morris in Hulu’s Only Murders in the Building, and Jeff the Elf on Netflix’s Dash and Lily.

John Lithgow as Arthur Mitchell: The Trinity Killer from the original series that Dexter killed in season 4. Lithgow is well-known for his roles in 3rd Rock from the Sun, Footloose, The Crown, and Terms of Endearment.

Gizel Jimenez as Tess: Harrison’s science teacher at school in the Dexter cast who is also a bartender as a second job. Before Dexter: New Blood, Jiminez played Lauren in the TV show Neighbors and Cristin in tick, tick... Boom!
