Capcom's Devil May Cry 5 is coming to PlayStation 5 as a launch title, featuring updated graphics and additional content. This updated rerelease was one of many exciting games shown off at today’s PlayStation 5 showcase, which offered new looks at upcoming titles like Spider-Man: Miles Morales and Resident Evil 8: Village, as well as finally providing players with the system’s long-awaited PS5 price and release date.

2019’s Devil May Cry 5 was a massive success, managing to return Capcom’s monster-busting action series to its flashy roots following the divisive reception of Ninja Theory’s ill-received 2013 reboot. The game's initial release was shaken by some odd censorship choices on its PlayStation 4 port and the same microtransactions that have plagued many popular titles over the past few years, but the gameplay kept the same stylish energy that made the series a hallmark franchise for Capcom, and it has even possibly influenced future games like the recently announced Final Fantasy XVI. Now Devil May Cry 5 is coming to the PlayStation 5, and it will be available on day one.

The Devil May Cry 5: Special Edition trailer shown during today’s PlayStation 5 stream largely focuses on Vergil, Dante’s twin brother and a new playable character for the updated port. In a dramatic voiceover monologue, the half-human/half-demon warrior wonders what things would have been like had he lived Dante’s life. From there, the trailer switches to gameplay footage as Vergil unleashes his awesome demonic power and rapid sword skills on hordes of enemies. As he battles, Vergil can also impale himself with his trusty katana, the legendary Yamato, to transform into V, his human alter-ego. There are shots of fellow demon hunters Dante and Nero (Vergil’s estranged son) in battle as well, with all of the impressive and flashy visuals being rendered in higher detail thanks to the PS5’s updated technology. Finally, the trailer ends with the reveal that Devil May Cry 5: Special Edition will be available to download on the PS5's launch date, which was later announced to be on November 12th in North America and November 19th for the rest of the world.

Although Vergil served as the main antagonist in Devil May Cry 5, he remained a non-playable character in the standard edition despite fans demanding that he be made playable in future DLC. The closest players ever got to taking control of him was through V, by virtue of the Kylo Ren look-alike being a manifestation of his human side. However, this decision to make him playable lines up with the special editions for Devil May Cry 3, Devil May Cry 4, and DMC: Devil May Cry, which either gave the blue-clad demon hunter his own bonus levels or let him play through Dante’s.

Devil May Cry 5 had strong sales in 2019, so it makes sense for Capcom to want to cash in on it in the newest console generation. The game already looked amazing on current-gen hardware, and judging from today's trailer it will look even better on PS5. Plus, there's the added bonus of kicking demon posterior as Vergil, which is always a plus for fans. Devil May Cry 5: Special Edition will be available to download for the PlayStation 5 when it launches in November.
