The 20th anniversary of the Devil May Cry series is almost here and fans are eagerly awaiting news of the sixth entry in the series. Capcom has seen incredible success with the Monster Hunter and Resident Evil franchises over the past few years, but it wasn't that long ago that Dante and Nero were shipping millions of copies with Devil May Cry 5.

The Devil May Cry franchise only exists because of Resident Evil. The game fans know as Resident Evil 4 went through a number of major revisions during development. One of the earliest iterations of Resident Evil 4 became the original Devil May Cry, which followed a demon hunter named Dante. It's revealed that Dante is one of the sons of Sparda, a powerful demon from the netherworld, which is why he has the strength to defeat fiends in battle. The series later introduced a new protagonist, named Nero, who is Dante's nephew. The two have appeared as protagonists in several Devil May Cry games, with the most recent being Devil May Cry 5, where they were joined by a spellcaster named V, and Dante's brother, Virgil, in the DLC.

There are several big video game anniversaries in 2021 and some of them belong to Capcom, such as the 30th anniversary of Street Fighter 2, and the 25th anniversary of Resident Evil. The next big anniversary for Capcom is the 20th anniversary of Devil May Cry, which is due to take place on August 23, 2021, and the company may have some big plans in store.

How Capcom Could Celebrate Devil May Cry's Anniversary

Vergil Devil May Cry 5 Special Edition

The most likely way Capcom could celebrate the anniversary of the Devil May Cry series is with an official announcement for Devil May Cry 6. DMC 5 was only released in 2019, so Capcom likely isn't in a rush to push the next entry out, but an acknowledgment of the game's existence would be a good way to celebrate the anniversary.

It's likely that Devil May Cry will be the focus of the next Capcom Collab for Monster Hunter Rise, considering the next one is due to arrive in August. Palicos have had Dante costumes in other Monster Hunter games, so that feels like an easy way for Capcom to celebrate the anniversary. There's also a chance that more news could be given regarding the upcoming Devil May Cry animated show for Netflix, as nothing has been heard about it since 2018. The Devil May Cry series has included some incredible games over the years, and the series is deserving of Capcom's attention on its birthday, even if it's just a crossover appearance in another game.
