New Destiny lifetime stats from Bungie reveal that players have logged almost 10 billion hours of playtime since the franchise debuted in September 2014. Within a few years of Bungie's shipping its last Halo game, 2010's Halo: Reach, the developer unveiled a brand-new universe, one just as expansive as the world-renowned brand it left behind.

Originally published under the Activision umbrella, Destiny hit the scene in 2014 with the promise of a "10-year plan." Many a Destiny faithful will admit the early days were a little rocky in terms of content, but Bungie managed to significantly refine the experience as time went on. Unfortunately, Destiny 2's 2017 release bore more than its fair share of hiccups as well, with certain design choices, such as those related to the XP system, ruffling feathers amongst even the most fervent community members. Much like its predecessor, the sequel gradually improved, with the more impactful changes occurring once Bungie parted ways with Activision. Barring a few stumbling blocks here and there, the elevation of the property has yet to cease.

A "This Week At Bungie" blog post on Bungie.net features a few new stats regarding the franchise at large. One of the "Destiny lifetime stats" reveals that 9.8 billion hours have been played in series history. This impressive figure is only topped by word that Destiny has accrued more than 187 million Guardians in its lifetime to date. With regards to stats from the past year, the studio said players defeated Atheon approximately two million times in the Vault of Glass raid. Meanwhile, users snuffed out the Deep Stone Crypt's final boss, Taniks, 3.5 million times, according to the post.

These details come a week after Destiny celebrated its seventh-year anniversary. And players have plenty of other reasons to celebrate, as well. For one, Season of the Lost, which kicked off in late August, is scheduled to last until February 22, 2022. As Destiny's longest season to date, it seems that not everything is set in stone as of yet.

Once Season of the Lost concludes, Bungie plans to transition right into The Witch Queen expansion, which will pit Guardians against the formidable Savathûn, a character who first received mention during Destiny's The Taken King in 2015.
