Dialogue from The Witch Queen, the latest Destiny 2 expansion, may have hinted at the return of the King's Fall raid. The hint was given by Savathun in a mission after the expansion's main campaign. Although anything said by the Hive God of Cunning should be taken with a grain of salt, it lines up with previous speculation that the fan-favorite King's Fall raid from the first Destiny will be the next to make its way into the sequel.

The Taken King, released in September 2015, was Destiny's first large-scale, annual expansion. It set a new bar for how good Destiny can be, giving players an entirely new playable area, new exotic gear, a better story than the base game, and, most importantly, a new raid that is considered to be one of the best in the series. It was the community's introduction to Oryx, one of three Hive gods that made the enemy species what it is in the game. The overall expansion was so well received that it wasn't until the release of Destiny 2: The Witch Queen that Oryx - the antagonist of The Taken King - was finally topped.

Bungie brought back Destiny's first raid, Vault of Glass, for Destiny 2 on May 22, 2021. Raids since then have gotten more complex and chaotic, but the ability to revisit a nostalgic activity from the first game was largely appreciated. In an effort to make the raid more in line with current ones, Bungie did add a few wrinkles to the well-known encounters, including various Champions. Since the release of the remastered Vault, Bungie developers have confirmed that other Destiny classics will be added in the future.

Destiny 2: Witch Queen - Hints At A Remastered King's Fall Raid

Destiny kings fall raid

After players complete the main campaign in Destiny 2: The Witch Queen, they're given access to Savathun's Altar of Reflection. This location features pre-recorded messages left by Savathun in the event that she was killed by the player. At the altar, she leaves more than a few interesting clues about The Witness, planets that have disappeared, and even the potential return of her brother Oryx, whose expansion also featured the return of a popular sniper in Destiny. In one of the messages, she invites the player to play her version of the game Two Truths and a Lie: Two Truths and Two Lies. She then says four different sentences, and asks the player if they can figure out what's true and what isn't. One of those sentences is "The Taken King will rise again." Its inclusion feels deliberate, and given past indications that Destiny 2 could revisit raids from the previous game, it could be taken as a sign that the King's Fall raid could return.

Some in the community have theorized that the statement is true, but Savathun isn't referring to Oryx. In Destiny lore, Oryx became The Taken King after learning from the Darkness the ability to Take. They argue that while Oryx did become The Taken King, the original Taken King is the one who gave Oryx that knowledge in the first place: The Witness revealed in Destiny 2: The Witch Queen. Going with that theory, Savathun is merely referring to the inevitable battle that Guardians will fight against The Witness. However, Bungie developers said in a September 2021 interview for PC Gamer that the next raid will be a "banger," making King's Fall and Wrath of the Machine the only options since Crota's End is considered Destiny's worst. Additionally, during an August Destiny 2 stream detailing the content roadmap, General Manager Justin Truman wore a Taken King t-shirt. It could just be a favorite of his, but the community widely took it as a sign that King's Fall could be next.

Beginning with Grasp of Avarice dungeon in December, Bungie said it plans on releasing a new raid or dungeon every three months in Destiny 2. The March release of Destiny 2's Vow of the Disciple raid puts the next one in June. Vault of Glass was released during Year 4's penultimate season, Season of the Splicer. If Bungie mirrors that schedule, it could be targeting September for the return of a Destiny raid.
