With the upcoming Destiny 2: The Witch Queen expansion, Savathûn has finally appeared to confront Guardians. The Witch Queen herself has long been heralded as the biggest threat in Destiny 2. Since Beyond Light introduced Stasis, many have speculated the next Darkness subclass will appear in The Witch Queen, and the perfect choice would be the long-rumored Corruption class.
Until Beyond Light, Destiny featured only three subclasses types, all related to the Light powers provided by the mysterious Traveler: Solar, Arc, and Void. Beyond Light then brought in the Darkness powered, ice-like Stasis, and hints from Bungie have suggested Guardians will eventually get two more Darkness subclasses.
In Beyond Light, the Exo Stranger helped players unlock Stasis, and the next Darkness subclass will likely have a similar character to mentor them. With Destiny 2: The Witch Queen's primary focus on the Hive, Hive expert Eris Morn will most likely take center stage as the key figure assisting Guardians in defeating Savathûn. Her knowledge of the Hive's dark magic and her experience as both a former Guardian and a wielder of the Darkness make her a prime candidate to introduce the rumored Corruption.
Destiny 2's Witch Queen Could Introduce A Hive Magic Corruption Subclass
Not only has Eris Morn been warning players for quite some time about Savathûn's return, but she is more than qualified, as the only friendly character in Destiny 2 who could teach the dark arts to players. It was also recently revealed that Savathûn has managed to harness the Light and create her own Ghosts and twisted Hive Guardians. If she wishes to use the Light against players, why not have them use the Darkness against her?
Of course, Stasis exists, but Destiny has already featured elemental weapons themed around Hive Soulfire magic - aka Corruption - in the past. The Thorn Exotic hand cannon and the Necrotic Grip Exotic Warlock gauntlets, for instance, both allow players to spread a green, Hive-esque, damage-over-time effect among their enemies. A Destiny 2 Corruption subclass, then, could feature similar DoT effects and themes of decay.
Everything about the Destiny 2: The Witch Queen makes it a fitting opportunity to introduce the Corruption subclass, adding not only to the narrative structure of the expansion but furthering the overarching story of the "Light and Darkness Saga" - and bringing balance to Destiny's universe, for whatever potential reason that needs to happen.
