Before the beginning of the Season of the Chosen in Destiny 2, Bungie had announced in Jan. 2021 that they planned to bring back "sunset" weapons from the Moon. The Season of the Chosen brought back four weapons, namely Heretic, Blasphemer, Apostate, and Premonition. While Premonition and high roll Dreambane armor can only be farmed in the Pit of Heresy dungeon, the other three weapons can be acquired by defeating one of the three bosses of the Altars of Sorrow. In Season of the Splicer, these bosses and their drops are:
- Zydron, Gate Lord - Heretic
- Phogoth, The Untamed - Blasphemer
- Taniks, The Scarred - Apostate
Recent news, however, has confirmed that all nine remaining Moon weapons will be brought back to their full capability. Additionally, these weapons will receive new perks to their arsenal, making them even more desirable than they were in the past. Destiny 2's Moon weapons aren't random drops, and any players who had missed out on their past Shadowkeep glory will now have a chance to test the weapons for themselves.
Destiny 2: How to Get Reissued Moon Gear
The announcement from This Week At Bungie laid out the complete list of Moon weapons that will be returning on July 6, rolled out with the weekly update, and just one week after the return of Iron Banner. These returning weapons include:
- Loud Lullaby (Hand Cannon)
- One Small Step (Shotgun)
- Tranquility (Sniper)
- Arc Logic (Auto Rifle)
- Dream Breaker (Fusion Rifle)
- Every Waking Moment (Sub Machine Gun)
- Love and Death (Grenade Launcher)
- A Fine Memorial (Machine Gun)
- Night Terror (Sword)
To acquire these weapons, players will need to head to the Lectern of Enchantment on the Moon and purchase a particular Essence for one Phantasmal Core. Specific Essences are required per weapon, and each of them has a specific objective to be completed (along with two other easier tasks). These objectives only need to be completed once, however, as each Essence of the same type purchased afterward will have the objective already marked as completed. Once these objectives are completed return to the Lectern of Enchantment to exchange the Essence for the appropriate weapon.
Loud Lullaby's Essence is the Essence of Brutality. This Essence requires players to:
- Complete activities on the Moon
- Defeat 50 combatants with Hand Cannons
- Recover the Necromantic Strand in the Hall of Wisdom
To Recover the Necromantic Strand, first head to Archer's Line for the entrance of the Circle of Bones. It is a Hive door marked by an engravement in a hill, on the other side of the old dome building. Once inside, Guardians must make their way to the circular platform right of the entrance. They can find the Necromantic Strand near a broken piece of cover.
One Small Step's Essence is the Essence of Rage. This Essence requires players to:
- Achieve 120 kills with your Super, grenades, and melee abilities
- Obtain the Fangs of Shun'Gath in the World's Grave
Head to the Temple of Crota. The temple entrance is found on the eastern path of the Anchor of Light. Following the pathway, keep descending until a large circular room is reached. Swing right and follow the path to World's Grave. Keep moving forward in a straight direction until the end of the pathway. Head left on the raised pathway. Located at the end of the path is a room with a Hive Thrall named Shun'Gath, the Excised. Obtain the Fangs of Shun'Gath by defeating Shun'Gath.
Tranquility's Essence is the Essence of Vanity. This Essence requires players to:
- Complete activities on the Moon
- Defeat 25 combatants with Sniper Rifles
- Find the Horned Wreath in the Chamber of Night
Once again, head to the pathway leading to World's Grave. Once inside World's Grave, reach the end of the pathway until the raised platform allows players to turn left. Run beyond the circular room. The Chamber of Night is located here. Follow the pathway, leading to a large cavern. Left of the entrance is a small cave containing the Horned Wreath.
Arc Logic's Essence is the Essence of Failure. This Essence requires players to:
- Complete activities on the Moon
- Defeat 50 combatants with Auto Rifles
- Find the Captive Cord in the Lunar Battlegrounds
Staring at Sorrow's Harbor, head to the southern corner towards the Hive bridge, cross it, and continue south to a small conglomerate of buildings. The Captive Cord is located on the building with the radio tower at the end of the zone.
Dream Breaker's Essence is the Essence of Servitude. This Essence requires players to:
- Defeat 30 Vex on the Moon
- Kill 15 enemies with Fusion Rifles
- Retrieve Ehrath'Ur's Horned Wreath from the Catacombs
Return to the Circle of Bones - remember that the entrance can be found by starting from Archer's Line, through the dome building, and is the Hive door marked by the engravement in a hill. Continue forward toward the other side of the Hellmouth, this time to the Catacombs accessed from a hole in the wall. Follow the staircase down to find the first Hive group. There is a Hive Wizard named Malura, the Fated inside the Catacombs. Defeat her to receive Ehrath'Ur's Horned Wreath.
Every Waking Moment's Essence is the Essence of Obscurity. This Essence requires players to:
- Complete activities on the Moon
- Defeat 50 combatants with Submachine Guns
- Find the Withered Plumes in the Circle of Bones
Returning to the entrance of the Catacombs, stop. The Withered Plumes are on the ledge beside the entrance.
Love and Death's Essence is the Essence of Insanity. This Essence requires players to:
- Defeat 100 combatants with Grenade Launchers in strikes, Crucible, or Gambit. Guardian kills grant additional progress
- Obtain the Bound Manacle found in The Gatehouse
The Gatehouse entrance is located inside the Hellmouth, slightly north from the entrance of the Hellmouth on the Moon map. Past the first Hive room inside is another room with Hive Knight named Ehrath'Ur, Eternal Blade. Defeat the Knight to obtain the Bound Manacle.
A Fine Memorial's Essence is the Essence of Greed. This Essence requires players to:
- Complete activities on the Moon
- Defeat 25 combatants with Machine Guns
- Recover the Ethereal Charms from the Temple of Crota
Head to the Temple of Crota. After reaching the large circular room, run to the other side to find the Ethereal Charms on the floor.
Night Terror's Essence is the Essence of Jealousy. This Essence requires players to:
- Complete activities on the Moon
- Defeat 25 combatants with Swords
- Find Ralniks's Hatchet in Traitor's Ketch
Acquire Ralniks's Hatchet by defeating a Fallen Captain named Ralniks, Blood of Kells. Ralniks can be found in the crashed Fallen Ketch ship in the Anchor of Light.
