The final mission of Destiny 2's Season of the Splicer has a surprising secret message in Morse code that could have significant implications for the game’s future. The current Season of the Splicer launched on May 11 and introduced the game’s controversial Transmog system. While a feature that allowed players to customize the look of their armor was something that the community has been wanting for a long time, the way Bungie implemented it was needlessly tedious and grindy and the negative feedback has pushed the studio to implement drastic changes to the Transmog system next season.

Apart from the usual seasonal content, such as the new 100-tier battle pass and new Exotic weapons, the Season of the Splicer also saw the return of the Vault of Glass raid from the original Destiny. The return of the classic raid is part of Bungie’s ongoing Destiny Content Vault system, which lets the developer “vault” some of the game’s content to make room for either brand-new content or refreshed versions of the old ones, such as the Vault of Glass raid. The studio also brought back the Cosmodrome late last year as the first of the series’ Destiny 1 content to make a return in Destiny 2.

GameSpot reports that players can encounter a friendly Vex Harpy near the starting point of the last Season of the Splicer mission. The Harpy, which features an eye that glows blue instead of red, can be heard playing a series of beeping sounds that is apparently Morse code. Reddit user Murvin shared a video clip of the Harpy emitting the supposedly coded message on the raidsecrets subreddit while another user, Hieront, successfully decoded it. According to the translation, the friendly Vex is possibly saying “assistant.” This has led fans to believe that the Harpy could be Asher Mir or at least connected to him in some way.

Watch Murvin's Harpy recording here.

Asher Mir was a quest-giver on Io when Destiny 2 first launched and occasionally made subsequent appearances in the game’s expansions. During his encounters with players, Asher would refer to them as “Assistant,” which lends credence to the possibility that the friendly Harpy could be the researcher. Before he disappeared along with Io and several other planets, Asher was suffering from the virus that was slowly transforming him into a Vex robot. It’s possible that the friendly Harpy is a fully transformed Asher that has somehow maintained at least some of his consciousness or that Asher is simply using the Harpy to transmit this message from wherever he currently is.

This new revelation, if confirmed to be accurate, opens up so many doors for the future of Destiny 2’s story as it sets up the potential return of the planets that were lost to the Darkness. It also establishes the possibility of eventually fighting alongside the Vex to push back the Darkness, with Asher being the key to that occurrence. With the Season of the Splicer coming to an end and Bungie set to reveal the game’s The Witch Queen expansion in the coming weeks, Bungie could already be setting up the future of Destiny 2.
