Opulent Keys are a new item in Destiny 2 that players can find throughout Season of the Haunted. As Guardians explore the Derelict Leviathan ship above the Moon they will come across several locations of Opulent Chests, one of the main sources of loot that the Menagerie weapons can be earned from. In order to open the chests, however, they'll need a specific Opulent Key that corresponds with a particular chest location aboard the Derelict Leviathan.

Fortunately, every time Guardians receive an Opulent Key they'll be able to inspect the item in their inventory and read a clue that indicates where its corresponding chest location can be found. Throughout Destiny 2, Season of the Hauntedplayers will only be able to hold one Opulent Key at a time. Once they have a key they'll need to find the corresponding chest as soon as possible before they can get their hands on another one.

The easiest way to get an Opulent Key is by completing The Leviathan Returns quest. All Guardians will have this quest once they complete the introductory mission to the season, and it's relatively easy to complete. For the first step, complete Nightmare Containment tiers in the Castellum and fully explore the Leviathan. Afterward, speak with the Crown of Sorrow to complete the quest and receive the first Opulent Key. The Crown of Sorrow can be found at the HELM in Destiny 2 and serves as the Derelict Leviathan vendor for the season.

How To Get More Opulent Keys In Destiny 2

Once players have used their first Opulent Key, they'll have three other methods to get more. Opulent Key sources are divided among the Destination Chests, Haunted Alcove chests, and Nightmare Containment reward chests. Destination Chests can be found randomly throughout the Derelict Leviathan, but unfortunately, players aren't guaranteed to find an Opulent Key every time a chest is opened. Players should keep exploring the Derelict Leviathan with the Expert Tracker mod equipped in their Ghost to find Destination Chests as soon as they appear. Haunted Aclove chests will take a bit longer to find as they spawn after either of the two mini-bosses in the Pleasure Garden or Royal Pools are defeated. Players should work on their Trespasser Exotic Sidearm Catalyst in Destiny 2 as they search for both types of chests.

Nightmare Containment reward chests spawn after a Nightmare Containment Tier III event has been completed. With the Expert Tracker mod equipped, Guardians will have two minutes to explore the Derelict Leviathan's Castellum area to find the two chests and the doors they are locked behind. Completing the Tier III event allows Guardians to pull the level in those areas to open the doors and claim the rewards, but like the other chests, Opulent Keys aren't always guaranteed here in Destiny 2 either.
