The Guardian Games, a class v. class event in Destiny 2, has returned, but with a few new features that will make it more difficult for players to farm Medals without working for them. The Guardian Games in Destiny 2 began on April 20. During the event, Guardians in the three distinct Destiny 2 classes, Hunters, Titans, and Warlocks, compete with one another by completing in-game challenges. For each challenge, individual Guardians will earn Medals and Laurels based on their performance. They can turn their earned Medals in with NPC Eva Levante to vote for their class. At the end of the event, the class with the most votes will be honored for the year until the next Games.

Destiny 2 has had trouble with events like this in the past due to players starting an activity or challenge, then going completely idle to reap the rewards indefinitely without putting in effort. A new mechanic in the Guardian Games aims to combat this practice and make it more difficult for bad actors to use it. This new mechanic, called the Medal Case, has been causing some confusion due to the way it appears in-game. Contrary to its appearance, the Medal Case is not a quest for Guardians to complete. Here's how to access and use the Medal Case during the Guardian Games in Destiny 2.

How to Access and Use the Medal Case in Destiny 2

The three main classes compete in the Guardian Games in Destiny 2

The Medal Case in the Destiny 2 Guardian Games allows Guardians to store a limited number of Medals and Laurels they earn during the event. They will need to turn their earnings in when they reach the limit, or they will not be able to collect any more.

To unlock the Medal Case, players will need to log onto Destiny 2 during the event and begin the Guardian Games introduction quest by speaking with Commander Zavala. They will eventually be directed to find and speak with Eva Levante, who provides more information, bounties, and rewards, and unlocks the Medal Case.

The Medal Case stores earned Medals and Laurels and places a cap on the number of each kind of Medal a Guardian can hold at once. The breakdown of these caps appears below:

  • Laurels: 500
  • Platinum Medals: 3
  • Gold Medals: 3
  • Silver Medals: 5
  • Bronze Medals: 5

Once they reach the maximum cap, Guardians will need to turn in their earnings to Eva Levante or deposit them at the podium in The Tower to begin earning more.

Like the Hammer of Proving from earlier in Destiny 2: Season of the Chosen, Guardians can find their Medal Case in the Quests tab and use it to track their earnings. This can be confusing, as this section under the Quests tab includes a note that reads "Step 1 of 1," like other quests. At first glance, it can seem like there is more players will need to do with their Medal Case, but there does not seem to be.

There are no quests associated with the Medal Case specifically; for example, Guardians do not receive any quest rewards for hitting maximum capacity for each kind of Medal earned. The Medal Case is merely a mechanic and tracking tool meant to combat idle reward farming and make matchmaking during the event more fun for the players who want to earn their rewards legitimately.
