There are a few new puzzles to solve in The Witch Queen expansion for Destiny 2, including the Memories of the Ruin challenge where players must correctly identify three out of place symbols. The Memories of the Ruin puzzle is required to progress in The Witch Queen campaign, but the way to solve it can be unclear. The pattern of symbols on the pillars is random, so players will have different solutions.
In order to reach the Memories of Ruin puzzle, players will need to complete "The Lightblade" strike mission. After completing this mission in Destiny 2, players will need to return to the Altar of Reflection by using the mirror found in the Throne World. Once players reach the Alatr of Reflection, they will see a wall with eight pillars covered in symbols. There's a distinct pattern to the symbols that needs to be identified.
The Memories of Ruin puzzle has eight pillars each with five Hive runes on them. There's a pattern to the runes, so solving the puzzle involves examining the pillars closely and figuring out which ones have Hive runes that don't belong. The solution is different for every player, so the pillars that need to be shot it are not always the same. The only way to complete the puzzle is to look closely at each pillar and find the break in the pattern or the rune that doesn't belong.
Completing the Rune Puzzle at the Altar of Reflection in Destiny 2: The Witch Queen
Once the out of place Hive runes are identified, players will need to shoot each of them. Shooting the correct rune will reveal a green Hive symbol above the Memories of Ruin puzzle in Destiny 2. If the incorrect symbol is shot, there will be a message indicating the solution was wrong and the puzzle will reset. When all three out of place Hive runes are shot, the puzzle will be completed and players can continue the quest.
The Memories of the Ruin puzzle may also reset if players use weapons that could hit multiple runes at the same time. Using single-shot weapons works best for completing the puzzle, and players will need to be precise while aiming to ensure they hit the correct Hive rune. Some of the new weapons in The Witch Queen expansion could work for completing the Memories of Ruin puzzle.
When the Hive rune puzzle is complete, players will need to go through the newly opened door which leads to a large, open area with a group of enemies to defeat. Once all the enemies are defeated, another door will open. Players can go through the second door and trigger the memory inside at the center platform. After the memory plays out, the Memories of Ruin quest in Destiny 2 will end.
