Now that the Guardian Games 2022 are in full swing for Destiny 2, players can finally get their hands on Heir Apparent and its Catalyst once more. Heir Apparent is an Exotic Machine Gun unlike any other in the game, and the only time it's available is during the annual Guardian Games. Introduced in Season 10, Heir Apparent has since been a staple for many players' loadouts in both PvP and PvE activities thanks to its unique Basic Trait called Armor of the Colossus.

Much like the Grand Overture Exotic Machine Gun in Destiny 2, Heir Apparent is a weapon that many players have seen being used by high-ranking Cabal called "Colossus" throughout various PvE activities. Armor of the Colossus is Basic Trait for the weapon that generates an Arc Shield as Heir Apparent simultaneously spins up, ready to be fired. Combined with its 900 RPM fire rate, Heir Apparent is both a great weapon to use defensively and offensively in endgame activities, particularly modes like Trials of Osiris where Guardians have limited lives.

For the Guardians who have not yet unlocked Heir Apparent in years past, the Exotic Machine Gun cannot be earned right away through the Guardian Games in Destiny 2. Instead, they'll first have to complete a nine-step quest called Best In Class that officially kicks off the limited-time event. Additionally, Best In Class is also how players can earn their first The Title SMG in Destiny 2, a new Legendary weapon that fits in well with the Void 3.0 rework. Upon completing Best In Class, players will be given a new quest called Top Of Class that has two easy steps to unlock Heir Apparent.

How To Unlock Heir Apparent & Catalyst In Destiny 2

The first part of the Top Of Class quest requires players to collect 50 Laurels, the currency for the Guardian Games. Laurels can only be collected when players have their Guardian Games class item equipped as they progress through any activity. Given how many steps are part of the Best In Class quest, it's likely that most Guardians will already have the first step completed by the time they acquire Top Of Class. The second part of the quest requires players to get 100 kills with Machine Guns in the Daily Focus playlist, which can be found by reviewing the Milestones tab in the Destinations menu. Crucible, Gambit, and Vanguard activities in Destiny 2 will be rotated in the Daily Focus during the reset.

After completing Top Of Class, players will automatically receive Heir Apparent. To get its Catalyst, players will have to submit Gold and Platinum Medallions to receive a quest for it at random. The quest then has three steps for players to complete centered around Guardian Games activities, so the window to complete last as long as the event does. After the quest is completed, players will need to get 700 kills, at any time, with Heir Apparent to complete the Catalyst in Destiny 2.
