Bungie's 30th Anniversary Pack for Destiny 2 introduced plenty of new activities and loot for players to dive into. The DLC added a new 6-player activity, usually reserved for the beginning of new seasons, called the 'Dares of Eternity.' The Dares of Eternity is less of a story-driven activity and more of a fun loot-driven activity that seems like Destiny's version of  Wheel of Fortune. The new activity also ties into the game's new social space and NPC's in 'Xur's Treasure Hoard.' The social hub is where players will level their 'Strange Favor' with Xur and start the quest to get Destiny 2's Forerunner exotic sidearm.

The Dares of Eternity resembles fan favorite 6-player activities like The Menagerie from the Season of Opulence or the Sundial from Season of the Dawn. Xur is the go-to NPC, where players can get bounties that can only be completed in the activity. In addition, exclusive emotes, items, universal ornaments, and shaders can be earned through completing various triumphs in the 30th Anniversary triumph tab. Xur's treasure Hoard also houses the Starhorse NPC, which sells players Dare bounties with a high XP payout upon completion, but they can only be bought using 'Strange Coins.' Strange Coins are earned upon completion of the Dares of Eternity activity and earned by killing special mini-bosses within the activity. Players will also earn treasure keys using the same methods for earning Strange Coins; these keys can be used to open the treasure chests at Xur's treasure hoard, which will earn players classic Halo-themed weapons for Destiny 2.

Before starting the activity, be sure to grab all the bounties that Xur offers, as most can be completed in one run, and they are not challenging to do. Then, to start the new activity, head to the 'Eternity' location on the map director and select 'Dares of Eternity' from there. The normal activities mode has matchmaking, while the 1320 power level legend mode requires a pre-made fireteam and offers special armor that can take two charged light mods. After spawning into the activity, take the portal in front of spawn to head to the activity's first area. First, spin the 'Wheel of Adversity,' which will tell the fireteam what enemy type they are fighting before each encounter. Players will want to bring weapons that clear out large groups of enemies as well as do decent boss/mini-boss damage, making the return of Gjallarhorn in Destiny 2 even more essential.

How to Complete Dares of Eternity in Destiny 2

Destiny 2: Dares Of Eternity Guide (Missions, Fights, & Rewards)

The first round of Dares of Eternity has two phases. After the Wheel of Adversity decides what enemy-type players will be fighting, the first phase only consists of killing all of the enemies that spawn in. Champions spawn in this phase and throughout the rest of the activity, so using champion mods is recommended but not entirely necessary if players are over-leveled. The second phase is where things get exciting and introduce seemingly different mechanics for each enemy type, but they all work the same way. Kill a named enemy, pick up what they drop, use it to destroy something significant, and kill a mini-boss. Like Destiny 2's new Wastlander Shotgun, close-range weapons, paired with a great damage/crowd control weapon like the Gjallarhorn, will make this activity a piece of cake.

When players face the Vex in Dares of Enternity, players will kill a named Vex enemy, pick up a cranium, and use it to destroy mini-bosses shields. On the other hand, players facing the Scorn will kill a named enemy, step into debuff, and shoot at crystals until they're destroyed to move on. The only enemy type that has a different encounter in this first round is the Fallen, who will spawn in mines that have to be defused by standing in their area. If players disable all the mines, they'll be rewarded with an additional chest that can award extra Strange Coins and Treasure Keys.

Round 2 of Dares of Eternity acts the same way as round 1 but at a bigger scale with tougher enemies and a different chance for bonus loot. Although at the end of Round 2, a Taken Orge mini-boss has the chance to spawn instead of the regular enemy-type, this Orge will have the chance to drop extra Strange Coins, Treasure Keys, and activity loot upon its death.

Jumping Puzzles

After rounds 1 and 2 of Dares of Eternity, a short jumping puzzle in Destiny 2 will reward the player with full ammo and stat boosts if they don't fall to the lower level of each puzzle. The puzzle after the first round has a launcher at the beginning with a spinning obstacle that can block the player from the top level unless they know the trick. The rotating obstacle has three half-circles and one other half circle attached to an icy mountain on the right-hand side. Lining up the two half circles to make a whole circle and entering the launcher at that time will guarantee that players make it through the obstacle every time.

Boss Fights/Final Round

Destiny 2: Dares Of Eternity Guide (Missions, Fights, & Rewards)

There are three different bosses players may fight at the end of each activity;  a Hive boss, a Cabal boss, or a Vex boss. Power weapons like Sleeper Simulant that can take advantage of the mods on Destiny 2's Wayfinder Artifact will do the most damage on bosses in his phase. The Cabal and Vex boss mechanics work the same way for their given factions in the previous rounds. Killing enemies will spawn a named enemy, the named enemy will drop something to be thrown or shot at the boss to bring down its shields, and finally, the fireteam will be able to kill the boss.

The Hive bosses' mechanics are a bit different. Destiny veterans will recognize the Hive boss from a classic Destiny raid, 'Crota's End.' Crota's boss mechanics are relatively the same: kill a swordbearer, pick up a sword, and bring Crota to a kneel to damage him. The only difference from the Destiny 1 raid here is that Crota can only be damaged with the Swordbearer's sword. After the boss is defeated, a chest with a Treasure Key, a Strange Coin, and activity weapons will spawn in the middle of the arena.

Lightning Round

Lucky Fireteams have the chance to get up to three extra chests after defeating their final boss by completing Lightning Rounds. Lightning Rounds are bonus rounds given at random at the end of any Dares of Eternity round and once again involve defusing mines. The mines spawn much quicker with a shorter countdown till detention, and instead of fallen enemies, players will have to face many Taken enemies, including several Major Ogres. Destiny 2's new stasis sword, the Zephyr, is useful in controlling and slowing these Ogres down. Defusing all the mines will earn the fireteam three extra chests on top of the chest received for completing the activity, maximizing their possible loot.

The only way to earn Strange Favor to rank up with Xur is to complete the Dares of Eternity activity. Players looking to earn the catalyst for the new Forerunner exotic sidearm will have to rank up to level 16 with Xur, meaning a fair amount of grinding will be required. Luckily, players will also be earning rolls of the new Halo-themed weapons in Destiny 2, like the BXR-55 Battler Rifle.
