Next week, Bungie plans to host a crossplay beta for Destiny 2 from May 25 through May 27 on Google Stadia, PC, PlayStation, and Xbox platforms. A fair few players have already experienced Destiny 2's crossplay capabilities in their basest form, thanks to a bug that shipped with Season of the Splicer several days ago.
During Season 14's first handful of hours, some players found themselves able to test out the sci-fi shooter's crossplay functionality. This mingling between platforms quickly came to a halt, however, with Bungie developers squashing the bug soon after its discovery. The rudimentary trial period still left fans longing for more, especially since crossplay remains one of the most requested features among the Destiny 2 community. Fortunately, the development team intends to bring cross-platform play to the spacefaring sequel, though it will initially come in the form of a limited beta.
In a post on Bungie.net, the studio informed fans of its plan to unleash crossplay functionality alongside the eventual release of Destiny 2's Season 15 content. The team acknowledged that crossplay's premature rollout in Season 14 had to be excised because there's still work do before the feature's ready for primetime. Players can take part in ironing out the kinks through a crossplay beta that kicks off on May 25 and ends on May 27. Though Bungie will host the trial period across all platforms, it will be limited to Vanguard Strikes. Bungie's goal centers on utilizing data gathered from the beta to help further develop the system itself. Better still, all those who finish three strikes in the "Vanguard Strikes Cross Play Beta playlist" can expect to receive a unique Star Crossed emblem reward.
As mentioned above, Destiny 2 players have long awaited an official crossplay announcement. Of course, there is still a lengthy wait ahead, yet a beta should whet the appetite of many fans after the unintentional tease earlier this month.
Bungie deployed Destiny 2 Season 14 on May 11, adding features such as new Stasis Aspect Quests and a transmog system to the roster. The Mithrax-centric storyline entered the mix as well; thus, players will have plenty to chew on through the Season of the Splicer which comes to an end later this summer on August 14.
Destiny 2 is available on Google Stadia, PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S platforms.
