Destiny 2 has seen the return of Destiny's famed Vault of Glass raid, and Bungie plans to bring more activities back soon. The original Destiny raids offer nostalgia for many players, which stood as the pillars of PvE activities since the game released back in 2014. However, with Destiny 2's The Witch Queen expansion releasing soon, Bungie needs to add a few more raids to transition into the next Hive God story.

Destiny struggled at release but improved as time went on. The Vault of Glass raid was a great success, and Bungie continued to develop more raids from there. When development on the title ceased, Destiny had four raids to complete: Vault of Glass, Crota's End, King's Fall, and Wrath of the Machine. Each raid centered around a different enemy type and served as a conclusion to the corresponding DLC's narrative. Destiny 2's Witch Queen expansion could benefit from the addition of two raids in particular.

Criticized for its short length and lack of challenge, Crota's End accompanied Destiny's The Dark Below DLC. Faced with a new threat, the Vanguard sent Guardians to slay Crota, the Hive Prince responsible for conquering the Moon. As the son of Oryx, Crota was a direct tie-in to the game's Taken King DLC released a few years later. Crota's relation to the Hive pantheon is a crucial connection that Bungie should address. Polygon's interview with Joe Blackburn and Justin Truman suggests Crota's End will not appear, as Truman stated, "[Bungie] want[s] to bring back...one of the big raids, that takes one out of the equation." Hopefully, Bungie will reconsider this stance, as Crota's story tied directly into the fate of the Moon and was the catalyst to the Hive plotline in Destiny 2's The Witch Queen.

Destiny's King's Fall Raid Should Return For Destiny 2 Story Coherency

Destiny - The Taken King

Now that Bungie is able to reliably develop new and old raids in Destiny 2, lost chapters of Destiny's past could ease the transition into future plotlines. For example, Savathûn, Destiny 2's Witch Queen antagonist, directly connects to Destiny's DLC The Taken King. After Guardians defeated Crota, his father Oryx came to the solar system for revenge. His arrival destroyed the Awoken fleet, forcing Mara Sov into her throne world, and began Prince Uldren's descent into madness. Reviving the King's Fall Destiny raid could connect the narratives missing within Destiny 2. This raid would fill in the lost chapters of Savathûn's story, as her plotting only began once Guardians killed her brother.

With the current timeline of Destiny 2, these raids may need to be adjusted to atone for the passage of time. Eris Morn, Mara Sov, and Savathûn have conquered the events of Crota's End and King's Fall. Thankfully, Destiny 2 features an enemy type to fix any canon compliance issues. Destiny's Season of the Splicer focused on the Vex, who could easily be used as a plot device to allow Guardians to partake in these raids. This function could let players jump between timelines and experience content from Destiny and Destiny 2 without complicating the story.

Reviving Crota's End and King's Fall could provide a smoother transition into the next chapter of the Hive Pantheon storyline. Destiny 2's The Witch Queen is the game's next adventure, and Guardians deserve to experience the whole story.
