The new Destiny 2: Beyond Light story trailer brings back the mysterious Exo Stranger from the first game. Big reveals have been the norm for the upcoming expansion to Bungie’s semi open-world first-person shooter, such as Beyond Light’s Raid World First beginning November 21, 11 days after the expansion’s release. In addition, a trailer released a couple weeks ago featured new exotics and gear that will be at players’ disposal when tackling the new story content coming in November.

Destiny 2: Beyond Light will be available on the Xbox Series X first, but the game’s official next-generation upgrade won’t launch until December 8, 2020. While waiting for the expansion’s release, Destiny 2 players can spend time playing catch-up or continuing the grind for the best weapons currently available, such as the Supremacy and its coveted God Roll. There’s a myriad of content for fans to experience or re-experience as they anticipate Beyond Light’s additional story and more.

Enhancing fan anticipation, Bungie has released a new Beyond Light story trailer on the official Destiny 2 YouTube channel, revealing the return of the mysterious Exo Stranger - who hasn’t been seen since the fall of the Black Garden in the first Destiny. Other characters returning include Eramis, the Fallen Kell who was only mentioned in the first game during the House of Wolves expansion, and Variks, another Fallen who made his first appearance in Destiny: House of Wolves. Eris Morn and the Drifter will also continue contributing to Destiny 2’s mystique. Fans interested in viewing the new Beyond Light story trailer, complete with showcasing of the new Stasis subclass and teasers for returning characters and lore, can do so below.

Destiny 2: Beyond Light is arguably the most anticipated expansion of Bungie’s 2017 sequel to Destiny. Since the company’s split with Activision in 2018, it has been working furiously to produce unique, compelling content on both the lore and gameplay levels. If the new Beyond Light story trailer is any indication, that drive to enhance players’ experiences consistently hasn’t withered since last year’s release of the Shadowkeep expansion. Of course, true judgment should be reserved until after the expansion’s official launch.

Despite Bungie’s best efforts, however, Destiny 2 falls into the same trap as most MMO experiences: repetitive content. Once gamers have reached the maximum light level and acquired all the weapons they desire with the best rolls they can get, they’re stuck repeating the same quests, strikes, raids, and competitive content until an expansion – or content patch within this expansion – is released. Beyond Light may offer unique and compelling additions to the game, but eventually, those too will be relegated to mere repetition. That does not, however, necessitate a less fun experience.
