The Disney Channel released a teaser trailer for Descendants: The Royal Wedding. In 2015, Descendants started as a musical fantasy movie, which was made for television. It was followed by two sequels and a spin-off animated series titled Descendants: Wicked World. The show is set around the children of the famous Disney villains. As teenagers, they're given the opportunity to attend a school in the kingdom.

Following Descendants 3, the new animated special is directed by Salvador Simó and written by Josann McGibbon (Descendants), Sara Parriott (Descendants), and Ricky Roxburgh (Rapunzel's Tangled Adventure). It's set to feature Mal (Dove Cameron) and King Ben's (Mitchell Hope) royal wedding. While they look forward to the epic celebration, Hades (Cheyenne Jackson) has more sinister intentions for their special day. The animated Descendants special is set to air on Friday, August 13.

The Disney Descendants YouTube channel posted a new teaser trailer for the special. It starts with Mal and King Ben exchanging their excitement for their big wedding day. They talk about their "happy ever after" and where their story could possibly go. As they embrace each other, they're interrupted by Hades, who has other plans. The teaser closes on a personal invitation for viewers to attend this special event. See below for the original teaser trailer:

Along with Cameron, Hope, and Jackson, other voices included in the cast are Sofia Carson as Evie, Booboo Stewart as Jay, Sarah Jeffrey as Audrey, Melanie Paxson as Fairy Godmother, China Anne McClain as Uma, Jedidiah Goodacre as Chad, Anna Cathcart as Dizzy, Dan Payne as Beast, and Bobby Moynihan as Dude the Dog. Given that the Disney Channel's music tends to lead to hits that place on the top charts by younger audiences, this special will likely be no different. Unfortunately, due to the tragic passing of Cameron Boyce in 2019, Carlos De Vil won't be included in the movie, although the special will honor his memory and recognize his absence.

The concept of taking the Disney mythology of villains a step forward has been particularly appealing to audiences. Disney has recognized that the TV movie franchise has been a huge draw for younger viewers. While the teaser doesn't really reveal all that the animated special has to offer, it's supposed to bring the story into a new era with potentially more characters. Given that this is another success for Disney, the franchise certainly has a future. With the release date of August 13 just around the corner, fans won't have to wait too much longer to see what else Descendants: The Royal Wedding has in store for the plot moving forward.
