The cast of the hit FXX comedy It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia reveals Glenn Howerton's character, Dennis, appears in the majority of season 13. Howerton has been a pivotal part of the edgy comedy series since the show began in 2005, not only starring as one of the main cast members, but also serving as one of the show's writers and co-creating it alongside co-star Rob McElhenney. And while season 12 of the show was arguably one of the best seasons to date, there appeared to be trouble in paradise in the final episode, as Dennis was leaving Philadelphia to be with his son in North Dakota and Howerton's status for the 13th season appeared to be uncertain – especially since he began a new gig with the NBC hit sitcom A.P. Bio.

A ray of light signaling Howerton's return to Always Sunny appeared in late June, however, when a synopsis of Season 13 revealed Dennis would be a part of the show to take on "the new role of father in North Dakota." But with scant details of the extent of Howerton's involvement in the season - and a possible limiting story line for Dennis - fans of the character remained on edge with no firm answer whether or not the Always Sunny gang would ever be fully reunited in the City of Brotherly Love again.

That all changed Friday with an appearance by McElhenney, Charlie Day, Danny DeVito and Kaitlin Olson at the Television Critics Association's press tour, where the cast updated reporters on the status of Howerton in Season 13. According to Variety, McElhenney said, “We went through all sorts of ideas before we knew that Glenn was coming back. He’s in pretty much every episode,” while Day added, “He’s in the majority of them.”

Day also noted that the production got creative in shooting around Howerton's other commitments, but didn't offer any major details except to say one way was to do an all-female reboot of a past episode – an idea that completely falls in line with the show's clever creative sensibilities in prior seasons. The revelation of Howerton's bigger participation in Season 13 will no doubt come as a huge relief to fans of not only Dennis but the cast of characters as a whole, since his chemistry with McElhenney, Day, Olson and DeVito has been a huge key to the series' success. The news of Howerton appearing in a majority of the episodes also comes as a surprise, considering FXX previously stated that the actor would not be as big a part of Always Sunny's 13th season.

Fans will start to get a better look at how things will go when Season 13 premieres early next month. The guessing game over Howerton's participation in Season 14 will likely begin once again once the new season wraps, since A.P. Bio has been given the greenlight for a second season.
