It appears that the upcoming Demon’s Souls remake might still make its way to PlayStation 4, according to the game’s listing by a Hungarian retailer. Originally, the anticipated remake was expected to release on PS5 only.

The Demon’s Souls remake was announced back in June at Sony’s PS5 reveal event. The ten-year-old title has been completely remade with an impressive visual upgrade, which definitely helps to revitalize the original Souls game so that it can appeal to the modern generation of players. Although the original reveal did not emphasize any major gameplay differences from the initial release apart from the complete graphical overhaul, Demon’s Souls practically looks like a brand new adventure.

According to Sony, Demon’s Souls was expected to be a PlayStation 5 exclusive, but new evidence implies that the game might still release on the current console generation, with a PS4 listing of the remake coming from Hungarian retailer Media Markt. The listing has a November 19 release date affixed to it, which makes sense considering that's the international launch date for the PS5 and most of its launch titles. At the time of writing, the listing is still live and viewable, and the fact that it hasn’t yet been taken down may speak to its legitimacy. Additionally, the Media Markt retailer is quite a credible source, as it's one of the best-known retailers in the region.

While the Demon’s Souls remake is mostly staying true to its source material, Sony has already confirmed some content additions to the game, a handful of new items that weren’t featured in the original titles that will be bundled with the game's Digital Deluxe Edition. These include two armor sets, a shield, sword, and a lot of "free" Souls. Whether these items will remain exclusive to the Digital Deluxe Edition or make it into the regular editions of the remake is not yet known.

Judging by the fact that Demon’s Souls doesn’t utilize any specific innovative solutions present on PS5 apart from taking advantage of powerful hardware, a PS4 version of the game is quite possible. On top of that, the source of the leak is fairly trustworthy, which adds weight to the speculation. But since Demon’s Souls is considered a strong selling point for PS5 as one of its launch titles, releasing the game on the current-gen could negatively affect the sales of the newest console. Sony has yet to clarify the situation.
