Sony announced that Demon's Souls, the first game in the Soulslike genre and the one which inspired future FromSoftware titles like Dark Souls and Bloodborne, is coming to the PlayStation 5Demon's Souls was never as well-received as later entries from the developer, but it holds a special place in the hearts of many long-time PlayStation players as one of the hardest games to ever grace the PS3.

Demon's Souls originally released in 2009 and was never ported to any other console besides the PlayStation 3. Although it wasn't as well-known as FromSoftware's previous entries in the Armored Core franchise, the ideas which it introduced about stamina management and environmental storytelling would go on to influence every game the developer made afterwards.

Now, it looks like a whole new generation of players will be able to experience the game that started an entire new genre, as Demon's Souls Remake has been announced as a PS5 title earlier today during the PlayStation 5 game reveal event. Although the company didn't say much about just what extent the gameplay of Demon's Souls would be changed from its original version, it definitely appears as if the game's graphics have gotten a major overhaul. Check out the Demon's Souls Remake announcement trailer below:

Demon's Souls wasn't the only game announced during the PS5 reveal event, but it may be one of the most iconic. Additionally, Sony also finally unveiled the design and concept of their new PS5 console, something fans have been waiting to see for some time now, and a lot of other upcoming video games, such as Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart and Stray.

Fans of FromSoftware games shouldn't be too worried just because they don't see the developer's names at the end of the Demon's Souls trailer. Although this title isn't being worked on by FromSoftware, the team which is creating the remake, Bluepoint Games, has a long history of creating quality remakes of popular titles which both new and returning fans are pleased with. Bluepoint is also responsible for the remake of Shadow of the Colossus on the PlayStation 4 as well as the Metal Gear Solid HD Collection, so FromSoftware fans should rest easy knowing their game is in good hands. Although no release date has been revealed yet for the Demon's Souls remake, fans are likely excited to finally visit the world which started the Soulslike genre once again, many of them likely for the first time.
