The upcoming Demon’s Souls remake for PlayStation 5 is getting a Digital Deluxe Edition that comes with some brand-new items that weren’t present in the game’s original PS3 release. After mistakenly releasing a trailer that said that Demon’s Souls would also be available on PC, Sony confirmed that the PS5 will be the only place to play the much-anticipated remake.

Sharp-eyed fans already had an indication that the Demon’s Souls PS5 release would introduce some new items to the game. The Demon’s Souls pre-order page listed a bonus weapon called the Reaper Scythe coming for players who ordered the game before its release. That listing was quickly removed, though, and Sony didn’t officially confirm that new items were coming to the game or that it had a pre-order bonus.

It looks like Sony is ready to spill all the details about Demon’s Souls bonus items now, with a recent update to a PlayStation blog post laying out its pre-order bonus and Digital Deluxe Edition contents. It turns out the Demon’s Souls Digital Deluxe Edition will include a whole lot of bonus items, many of which don’t exist in the original game. These include the Red-Eye Knight Armor, Hoplite Shield, Ritual Blade, and Phosphorescent Grains. Some of these items match up with enemies that were in the first Demon’s Souls release, so they may be added as drops even for players who don’t buy the Digital Deluxe Edition, but Sony hasn’t made clear if that’s actually the case. Along with a dozen bonus items, the Demon’s Souls Digital Deluxe Edition also includes a copy of the game’s soundtrack. Sony also confirmed that the Reaper Scythe is in fact a pre-order bonus for both the deluxe and standard versions of the game.

Demons Souls Digital Deluxe Edition

The new items included in the Demon’s Souls special edition package certainly look like they’ll give players a leg up, but they’re not likely to be an easy mode for the game. Demon’s Souls is a notoriously difficult game even with a great set of armor, and plenty of die-hard fans would see overpowered bonus gear as a step too far. From early preview footage, it’s clear that remake developer Bluepoint is making a few changes to the game, but everything shown so far seems remarkably faithful to the original. One addition that even purists could likely get behind is restoring content that FromSoftware cut from the original release, but neither Sony nor Bluepoint has even hinted that that will happen.

While it might not make the game that much easier, the Demon’s Souls Digital Deluxe Edition does at least show that the remake won’t be exactly the same experience that fans of the original remember. Whether that’s a good or bad thing still remains to be seen, but it seems that Bluepoint is willing to make some changes to ease new players in.
