Bluepoint's remake of FromSoftware's Demon's Souls is a fairly faithful update of the original game. Nevertheless, some changes were made in the game, including the removal of a particularly adorable cat photo.

Demon's Souls was the predecessor to the popular trilogy of Dark Souls games. Both Demon's Souls and Dark Souls are known for their challenging combat and share mechanics like bonfire save points. The remake of Demon's Souls has been fairly well received and seems to have set a benchmark for remakes of classic games. Demon's Souls has better graphics and is less buggy than the original, while still maintaining much of the core mechanics of the game. Demon's Souls is the first game from Sony to be a PS5 exclusive, though conflicting rumors have indicated that a PC port of the Demon's Souls might eventually arrive in the future.

While the bulk of the game remains largely the same, Bluepoint has added new items to Demon's Souls, made some balance changes and some smaller tweaks. One change that has left fans wistful for the original game is an adjustment to the Cat's Ring. When worn, the ring, which reduces fall damage, displayed a picture of cat head below the player's health bar. Not a stylized, computer-rendered cat, but an actual photo of one. In the Demon's Souls remake, however, that cat photo has been replaced with an icon more in keeping with the overall feel of the game.

Where Is The Cat Icon In the New Demon's Souls?

Demon's Souls End Credits Cat

Bluepoint didn't completely remove the beloved cat photo from the game. Fans have spotted the photo of the cat hanging on a tree during Demon's Souls end credits sequence. Bluepoint clearly knew the somewhat absurd icon would be missed by some fans, and gave it a proper nod in the game's finale. It should be noted that the Clever Rat Ring and Dull Rat Rings also had photographs for their icons which appear to have been replaced, but fans seem much less concerned about the fate of the rats.

The replaced cat icon isn't the only change driving Demon's Souls fans crazy. The new Demon's Souls has a mysterious hidden locked door that wasn't in the original, and so far no one has figured out how to open it or what lays behind it. Bluepoint has teased the Demon's Souls community with a tweet that might be a clue, and speculation has run rampant over what the door is hiding. It's yet another example of how a small change can cause big excitement amongst die hard fans of a game.
