Here's why Demon Slayer's short-tempered warrior Inosuke Hashibira is almost always wearing a pig's head. Demon Slayer is an incredibly popular shōnen manga series that first arrived in 2016. The story is set in Japan in the early 1900s and Demon Slayer follows Tanjiro Kamado, a teenager who returns home one day to find most of his family having been slaughtered by demons. His young sister Nezuko was also infected by demons, and he decides to train with the Demon Slayer Corps to find a way to cure his sister.

The Demon Slayer anime series arrived in 2019 and like other breakout successes like Attack On Titan, has proven incredibly popular. The series includes any number of striking monster designs - such as a family of humanoid spider creatures or a drum-playing monster who can affect geography while playing - in addition to beautifully drawn action. That said, it's also a show with a lot of humor and heart, with Tanjiro's gentle spirit and decency proving to be an anchor to some of Demon Slayer's wackier moments.

Case in point would be Inosuke, who alongside the cowardly Zenitsu accompanies Tanjiro on many of his monster-slaying quests. Demon Slayer's Inosuke is notable for a few reasons, including his incredibly short-temper, his need to dive into fights without ever thinking of the consequences, or his dual serrated swords. He also wears a hollowed-out boar's head for much of his screentime, which relates to his backstory of being raised by wild boars as a child.

Inosuke's origin is that his mother fled from her abusive husband while Inosuke was just a baby. They took refuge with a cult, but when she learned it was run by the demon Doma, she tried to flee into the woods. The demon managed to kill his mother, but infant Inosuke was later raised by boars. This explains why the Demon Slayer character has little in the way of social graces and acts in a more animalistic way. The boar's head is also revealed to have belonged to his boar mother, and he wears the head to honor her memory.

Like many of Demon Slayer's major players, he may appear straightforward on the surface but he's later given greater depth as the story unfolds. Following the first season, Inosuke returned for 2020's Demon Slayer the Movie: Mugen Train, which was one of the biggest financial hits of 2020, and he will also be back for the upcoming second season of Demon Slayer.
