Undertale's sixth anniversary livestream culminated in the reveal of Deltarune Chapter 2's release date, and it's arriving Friday, September 17. Undertale creator Toby Fox dedicated the stream to the original game, celebrating the six-year milestone of the franchise in a Deltarune Chapter 1 playthrough streamed alongside the indie game merch aficionados at Fangamer.

The Undertale developer was previously rumored to try for a late 2020 release date with Deltarune Chapter 2, but this never came to be. Deltarune information has remained sparse aside from a few screenshots since then, and this silence continued up until Fox's announcement of the Undertale anniversary stream. Leading up to the event, a new line of Undertale stickers and upcoming Good Smile Company Papyrus and Sans figurines were revealed. However, the actual September 15 stream saved the best for last.

Fox and Fangamer dropped the major reveal at the tail end of the Deltarune Chapter 1 stream after the three hosts left the set. A plush of Undertale's Annoying Dog, representing Fox himself, slowly creeped toward the controller on the couch, and the screen displayed the options to "Keep Playing Chapter 1" or "Continue to Chapter 2." After selecting the second option, all-new footage of Kris, Toriel, and Susie led to an official teaser for Undertale Chapter 2. According to the video and Toby Fox on Twitter, Undertale Chapter 2's release date is set for Friday, September 17 at 8 PM EDT for PC, Nintendo Switch, and PS4.

Fox talks about a variety of inspirations for Deltarune throughout the broadcast. Perhaps in a nod to fans wanting an unannounced Undertale 2, the creator comments that he purposefully framed the world of Deltarune to "make it seem like Undertale." The build of Deltrarune Chapter 1 played on the stream also contained several unique Easter eggs not present in the consumer release, as NPCs like Birdly make fourth-wall-breaking references to the real-world event and a birthday cake with the number six at its center could be spotted sitting on a shelf in the background of Seam's shop. Fangamer also revealed several new pieces of series-branded merchandise, including new mugs, a blue Sans hoodie, and small figurines of Undertale characters like Sans, Papryus, Frisk, and Toriel.

Throughout the course of a good-spirited and -humored steam, Fox and Fangamer managed to pack in plenty of exciting news about Undertale and Deltarune Chapter 2. Years have passed since the release of Deltarune Chapter 1 rekindled fans with determination, and the impending launch of the second chapter of Kris, Susie, and Ralsei's story seems poised to do the same.
