Among the enemies are super-powered giant creatures that players may encounter over the course of the game that present challenges. One of these creatures is Avalanche Abaasy, a dragon that can only be found at night and is a challenge to defeat. Here is the guide to defeating the Avalanche Abaasy in Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition.

How & Where To Find The Avalanche Abaasy

Abaasy can be found in the Valak Mountain during Chapter 17 on the Three Sage Summit. It can only be found during the night time in that region and only if a blizzard is happening. Abaasy can be only spawned after players defeating Egil in the previous levels. Abaasy is considered to be the highest leveled and strongest enemy in the entire game.

Avalanche Abaasy's Fighting Style & Attacks

As previously stated, Abaasy is the strongest enemy players will encounter. The creatures fighting style and damage prowess cannot be exaggerated. Abaasy's attacks focus on dealing high amounts of damage and leaving hardly any opening for payback. Here is a list of the monster's attacks:

  • Demon Purging Fire: A wide range attack that damages players who are caught in the vicinity of the attack. It also inflicts Blaze and Paralysis to players.
  • Ultra Tail Strike: The creature's attack that has it utilize its tail to attack players. Causes Topple for characters hit by the attack.
  • Ultra Air Crush X: An airborne attack that inflicts massive damage to targets.

What Gems Players Should Utilize For Avalanche Abaasy

Shulk holds the monado, a red sword with blue center, in a fighting stance.

Because of Abaasy's insane power level, players need to be wary about doing battle with the gigantic beast. Before heading to Three Sage Summit, players should procure the following gems to better their chances against Abaasy:

  • Haste: Increases the Auto-Attack speed and lessens the time between different Battle Arts attacks.
  • Night Vision: This gem is an absolute requirement to battle Abaasy. Since the monster appears and fights only in the night, players will require this item to increase the accuracy of their physical attacks against the dragon.
  • Debuff Resist: Debuff Resist increases resistance against all debuffs. It also protects players from Instant Death, which is an added bonus considering Abaasy's high damage attacks.
  • Topple Plus: Increases the Topple damage players inflict to enemies by a certain percentage. It can help unleash extra damage against Abaasy.
  • Topple Resist: Helps players gain resistance against Topple attacks by a certain percentage. Perfect for protecting against the Ultra Tail Strike.

What Skills Players Should Utilize For Avalanche Abaasy

In addition to gems, there are skills needed that are specifically suited for the fight against Abaasy. Players need to ensure they have the following skills equipped for the battle ahead:

  • Glorious Future: Grants players the chance to utilize a defensive Monado Art when the time is right.
  • Shoulder to Shoulder & Friendship Heals: Owned by Reyn & Shulk, respectively. Each heals characters following the completion of a chain attack. Heals the party after a chain attack by 10 & five percent, respectively.
  • Showdown Stance: Owned by Fiora. Raises that stats of party members by 30 percent in battles against high-leveled monsters for 30 seconds. Great way to start out when battling highly-powered foes like Avalanche Abaasy.
  • Ties of Friendship & Chain of Friendship: Owned by Reyn & Shulk, respectively. These two skills are essential when planning to use a Chain Link in battle. Increases the chances of a Chain Link by five and 15 percent, respectively.

What To Do When Battling Avalanche Abaasy

When it is time to battle Abaasy, being evasive and defensive is key. The only time for players to launch attacks, the physical arts, is when they will yield big rewards, in this case raising the party gauge and adding in extra debuff damage.

Players should also use the Haste gems to have Shulk's monado become active all the time. It is essential if players wish to shield themselves from Abaasy's attacks as they do a lot of damage.

When the time is right, players need to use Chain Attacks at the first possible moment. Starting out, players should make use of a Stream Edge and Air Slash to initiate break damage. Stream Edge and Air Slash fill the talent gauge and activate Slow, respectively.

Slow is especially useful for slowing down Abaasy's auto-attack rate and movement speed. This will allow players to better maneuver the monster's attacks and deal damage at the same time.

After Stream Edge and Air Slash, players need to follow up with two Topple Arts and a Cyclone to utilize offensive arts. Then all players need is to continue chaining high damaging arts such as Soaring Tempest and Sword Drive to inflict high amounts of damage to Abaasy.

When Avalanche Abaasy Is On Low Health

Upon reaching low health, Abaasy will become insanely powerful and more challenging. This phase of the fight is focused on unleashing high damaging attacks against the monster utilizing red physical arts. It is recommended to begin with a Shadow Eye with an Air Slash follow-up. Then all that is required is using red physical arts to bring down Abaasy.
