Deep Rock Galactic is a game about dwarves, procedurally-generated caves, mining, and…egg hunts? Regardless of the particular mission objective, the developers at Ghost Ship Games have somehow captured lightning in a bottle, creating a co-op action game experience that is unlike just about anything else out there right now.

However, while the actual gameplay is engaging, pulse-pounding, and never-ending amounts of fun, there are still a few rough edges on this indie game gem. Navigating the upgrades system in Deep Rock Galactic is both confusing and somehow hard to find. To use awarded perk points, players can’t simply open their menu. They must navigate to a particular location on their ship, and the game never really shows where that is. And once at the terminal, understanding all of the menus can be a daunting task.

How to Find &Use the KPI Terminal in Deep Rock Galactic

Deep Rock Galactic Cave Combat

Located somewhere on the Space Rig, one of 87 orbital space stations hovering over Hoxxes IV, players can review all of the Perk Points they’ve accumulated, and spend those points on upgrades to make their efforts planet-side more fruitful. But where is it? Most of the customization features of Deep Rock Galactic must be accessed through various terminals spread across the Space Rig, and most are in the main deck of the vessel.

The KPI Terminal is not. This computer screen, which allows dwarves to upgrade, is actually located in the dwarf’s room. That’s right, the very space a dwarf spawns into when a game starts. There are four rooms allocated for dwarves on the ship, and one is assigned to the player’s character. Head into this room, and to the back of it, and after turning around, the KPI Terminal is on the left side of the small closet-sized space.

It’s interesting that such an important location is in such an out-of-the-way spot (even if it is technically the first thing that players see when they launch the game). Walking up to the Terminal and interacting with it gives players access to three different menus. Statistics reveal all of the progress made in the game. Milestones are vital because this is how Perk Points are earned. Completing various tasks, like taking quests a certain number of times, or killing a bunch of enemies rewards Perk Points. The Perk Points are then spent in the Perks menu. This is the most important menu on the KPI Terminal, because it's where players can upgrade how much health is restored from Red Sugar, or how long it takes to refill from an ammo dump. They can also unlock equipment like hover boots, which grant the ability to float in the air for a couple of seconds.

Fully utilizing the KPI Terminal is a vital part of Deep Rock Galactic, because it’s here where players can fully customize their dwarf. However, as always, knowing where it is, is only half the battle…
