No one knows why Deep Rock Galactic wants the eggs, but boy does the giant space corporation need them. Egg Hunts are one of the mission types available to players in the game that shares its title with the faceless corporation at the heart of the expeditions down to the planet Hoxxes IV. And unless the dwarves know what they’re looking for, they’ll find themselves planet side forever, at the mercy of the strange monsters that inhabit the world.

Egg Hunts are one of the more entertaining mission types in the game because they require a fair amount of digging and exploration. Unlike Mining Expeditions where morkite sits right out in the open, Egg Hunts are a more complex beast that involves the dwarves navigating large caverns, excavation, and fighting off massive assaults by enemies.

How to Complete an Egg Hunt in Deep Rock Galactic

As with every mission type in Deep Rock Galactic, the dwarves find themselves in a drop-ship boring deep into the planet. Once the hatch opens, it’s time to get to work. Opening up the map screen and zooming out reveal a little about the local surroundings.

Egg Hunts typically take place in larger open caverns with a few offshoot areas. On the map, players will see glowing yellow icons. These are the eggs. Depending on the complexity and hazard level of the mission, between four and eight eggs will need to be collected. However, it’s not a simple matter of walking over and picking one up.

Most eggs are buried deep within the ground of the map and will take a fair amount of digging to excavate. The first clue to finding one is to look for a bunch of purple organic growths emerging from the rock near one of the egg locations. Upon discovering the stuff, it’s time to start digging. Eggs are nestled somewhere within a large purplish blob of organic material. Once freed from their enclosure, they can be carried. Bring each egg back to the M.U.L.E. and drop it inside.

It’s important to know that once an egg has been freed, the natural inhabitants of Hoxxes IV will be none too happy. A massive roar will shake the whole cavern for each egg excavated, and an onslaught of enemies will spawn. The dwarves will need to take out the bugs quickly or risk being overrun.

Once all of the eggs have been collected, one of the dwarves needs to press the call button on Molly, which will call in a new Drop Pod to retrieve the team. Before heading back to the Space Rig though, it’s a good idea to complete the secondary objectives which include collecting materials or killing Fester Fleas.

Egg Hunts are frenetic given the number of enemies that attack, but they are also a lot of fun. There’s something quite satisfying about discovering an egg, even if it is hiding in a bunch of gross purple goo. It’s another great mission type from an excellent game.
