NBC's sci-fi drama Debris has been canceled after just one season. Debris follows an international task force as they try to piece together mysterious falling wreckage, which has proved to have a deadly effect on humankind, from an alien spacecraft. The series starred Jonathan Tucker (ParenthoodAmerican Gods) as CIA operative Bryan Beneventi and Riann Steele (NCIS: New Orleans) as MI6 operative Finola Jones. The series' pilot premiered on NBC on March 1, 2021, and reached 4.37 million live viewers.

According to TVLineNBC has canceled Debris, which ranked 11th out of NBC's 14 total dramas. However, the sci-fi series just barely scraped by in achieving solid viewership in its first season. As a result of the cancellation, viewers are now left with a cliffhanger, as the show introduced puzzling INFLUX leader Otto (Fringe's John Noble) in the season, now series, finale. Viewers have also been left to interpret Finola's fate at the end of the season.

Debris Season 1 on NBC

While Debris had received generally favorable reviews from critics after its premiere on NBC, the show's ambiguity in its central mystery was not enough for NBC to keep it around for a second season. Additionally, Debris came on to the scene already in the shadow of NBC's hit sci-fi/supernatural drama Manifest, which chronicles the reappearance of airline passengers who had been presumed dead in a crash. Manifest's third season premiered on NBC this April. While Debris' cancellation may leave fans in an uproar, NBC will not be losing a large segment of their viewers.
