The time-looping FPS Deathloop features five powers with four possible upgrades for each power. The powers in Deathloop are acquired from looting Slabs in certain areas around the map. Players can then unlock upgrades for each power, which are additional effects added onto the main power. This can be achieved by returning to the location in a different loop, which isn't tethered to a time limit.

Players unlock Slabs by finding and killing Visionaries who have them. After looting the Slab from a particular Visionary, players can return to that same Visionary and kill them again to acquire a new upgrade for the Slab power. Each power has a specific use within the game, and only two powers can be equipped at any one time. Upgrades can also only be equipped two at a time. It is important to choose the best setup of Slab powers and upgrades to survive through the day in Deathloop.

Players will encounter new Slabs throughout their journey toward beating Deathloop. Once players have acquired Slab powers, they will need to choose which powers to equip. Aether gives players near invisibility, Nexus allows players to chain together kills, Shift lets players teleport to a chosen location, Havoc gives players increased damage and health, and Karnesis allows players to use telekinetic abilities.

The Best Upgrades For Each Slab Power In Deathloop

deathloop slab power upgrades

Each Slab power in Deathloop has four upgrades to gain with different perks to each upgrade.

  • Aether: Erase and Ghost. While Aether is active, Erase lets players kill enemies without leaving behind detectable evidence. Ghost makes it so Aether doesn’t consume power while standing still. Perfect for stealth purposes.
  • Nexus: Parasite and Influence. Parasite lets players regain health when someone affected by Nexus takes damage. Influence makes enemies affected by Nexus spontaneously create connections to nearby enemies.
  • Shift: Airborne and Reach. Airborne makes players to briefly hover after shifting, allowing them to shift in another direction in midair. Reach lets players travel further and higher, which, combined with Airborne, allows players to zip around the map with ease.
  • Havoc: Euphoria and Withdrawal. Euphoria makes players do more damage every time they take damage from enemies. Withdrawal makes players regain power by damaging enemies.
  • Karnesis: Zone and Suspension. Zone makes Karnesis push away multiple enemies upon use. Suspension makes thrown enemies hover in the air. Combined, these abilities allow players to pick off affected enemies.

Players can always mix and match upgrades for their chosen powers, but these upgrades work consistently. While players may have different power preferences, the best Slab powers tend to be Aether and Nexus. These abilities allow players to be the most efficient stealth assassin in the new Game of the Year contender, Deathloop.
