Players of the recently-released Death Stranding Director's Cut have discovered an Easter egg referencing P.T, the demo for the canceled Silent Hills game. Death Stranding Director's Cut is an expanded version of the 2019 original release, adding new features, missions, and gameplay options to the star-studded Kojima Productions hit.

Before releasing Death Stranding, famed game developer Hideo Kojima was set to helm the revival of the classic survival horror series, Silent Hill, until the project was canned by Konami. The game, entitled Silent Hills, would have starred some of the famous faces who went on to feature in Death Stranding, including The Walking Dead's Norman Reedus and director Guillermo Del Toro. The 2014 horror project was announced with a playable demo named "P.T", but following the game's cancellation, the demo was pulled from the PlayStation Store and has since become near-impossible for players to get their hands on. Many elements of P.T have been recreated in other big games, including Watch Dogs: Legion, due to the demo's creativity and impact on video game horror.

Twitter user Suzi Hunter has shared a screenshot of the P.T and Silent Hills Easter egg included in the new Death Stranding Director's Cut. Located in the shower of the safe room, Hunter's image shows the outline of what appears to be a woman shrouded in shadow, as a nod to Lisa, the ghost-like antagonist from the Silent Hills demo. While the Death Stranding "ghost" doesn't seem to be an exact replica of Lisa, the mysterious apparition appears to be a clear reference to the canceled game and its playable teaser. Multiple users have confirmed the woman doesn't appear in the regular version of Death Stranding, and her appearance in the shower seemingly has no bearing on the new release's additional content.

The image of what fans believe to be P.T's Lisa has caused a stir on Twitter, but this isn't the first time the character has cameoed in a Kojima video game that isn't P.T. Lisa also appears in 2015's Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain, another Kojima title. The character model can be used as a decoy by Snake, though the MGS 5 version of Lisa is identical to the one seen in P.T, rather than being just the outline seen in the new Death Stranding.

While Death Stranding Director's Cut's P.T reference is a nice nod for horror fans, it's unlikely that the Easter egg is anything more than a reference to a past Kojima project. After parting ways with Konami on what's believed to be bad terms, the Silent Hills IP remains with the company, while Kojima went independent with Kojima Productions. Silent Hill fans waiting for news on a new game in the series might not be out of luck, as it's rumored that Bloober Team, the developer behind The Medium and Layers of Fear, could be working on a new Silent Hill revival, though this has yet to be confirmed.
