Fans anxiously await Hideo Kojima's Death Stranding follow-up, but recent updates claim it was planned to exclusively release on the Stadia until it was rejected by Google. The internet giant recently announced that Google Stadia would be shutting down its foray into cloud gaming this coming January. With the first Death Stranding taking more than a few years to develop, it's likely that Stadia wouldn't have lasted long enough to see the release of Kojima's project.

After the unfortunate breakup between longtime collaborators Konami and Hideo Kojima, the innovative game designer started his own production company, Kojima Productions. The creator of Metal Gear Solid went on to create the new IP Death Stranding, which combined elements of different genres to create a very unique experience. The game also featured several talented actors like Mads Mikkelsen and Norman Reedus, who accidentally leaked Kojima's Death Stranding 2 and revealed that the game is in active development. None of Kojima's upcoming games have had any official reveals yet. Still, recent updates may have provided clues to what Kojima's next project could have been.

Kojima's follow-up to Death Stranding was reportedly set to release exclusively on Google Stadia until the tech company scrapped the project for not being what it expected. As reported by 9to5Google, Stadia's General Manager canceled the brand's involvement with the game in the middle of 2020. Unlike Death Stranding's asynchronous multiplayer components, Kojima Productions wanted to use Stadia cloud technology to create a strictly single-player focused "episodic horror game." Stadia's decision-makers believed that single-player games did not have a large enough market to cater to.

P.T. Demo Silent Hills Demo PlayStation 4 Konami Cancelled

In June, Hideo Kojima announced he's making an Xbox game, and that it's a title he's always wanted to create. Details on the project have been light, but a previously leaked trailer for an unannounced Kojima game called Overdose may be the horror game Google turned down. The developer teased that the completely new experience may take some time to develop. Still, fans disappointed by Konami's cancelation of the Kojima-led Silent Hills and delisting of the P.T. demo may yet have something to look forward to.

Fans of the Metal Gear Solid games are quite familiar with the bizarrely brilliant stories Kojima is able to tell, and Death Stranding was no different. The game earned considerable acclaim for its impressive cast of actors, to the point that fans are already discussing which actors should appear in Death Stranding 2. Death Stranding, like most of Kojima's projects, features an intense and thought-provoking story that could have helped set Stadia apart. Hopefully its potential will live on in future projects from Kojima.
