As enigmatic game developers (or, to be honest, any modern creator of TV, film, or video games) go, few can hold a candle to Hideo Kojima. He's the mind behind the Metal Gear Solid series, a franchise that has stepped into the odd, obscure, strange, and sometimes, silly - as its fans line up, regardless of the confused stares from the rest of the gaming market. But Kojima may have reached new heights at this year's E3 2016.
Taking the stage during Sony's E3 presser, the eccentric creator unveiled his latest creation. Joining forces with The Walking Dead star Norman Reedus (not their first collaboration), Death Stranding puts the main character into a... unique situation. Honestly, it has to be seen to be believed.
The in-engine trailer followed a pair of phantom handprints as they crawled across a gloomy, black sand beach, until arriving at a naked Reedus, lying in a fetal position - with a nude newborn baby lying next to him. Upon awaking and clutching the baby tight, the unknown man in Reedus' image soon finds the baby disappeared, reduced to years of agony, and forced to take in a potentially stranger(?) sight: black oil coating his hands, and dozens of dead fish and marine animals washed up on the beach around him.
We don't know much else about the game - but honestly, no gameplay details would make the scene seem logical - but with Hideo Kojima creating something new and, certainly, original, fans will be taking notice from here on out.
We'll bring you more on Death Stranding as details on the PS4 title arrive.
