Fans suspect that a Death Stranding sequel may be in development after director Hideo Kojima teased a photo confirming work on his next project has begun. While the creator hasn't disclosed just what his next move may be, eagle-eyed gamers spotted who they believe to be Death Stranding star Norman Reedus within the on-set image, fuelling speculation that Kojima is working on Death Stranding 2. This isn't the first time that a sequel has been hinted at, leading many to believe the game is currently in development.

Death Stranding is the most recent game from famed developer Kojima. Originally released in 2019, the game recently received an expansive upgrade with the Death Stranding Director's Cut, released for PS5 earlier this year. While the new edition of the game offers additional gameplay and new content, fans of the release are hoping there's still more to come from the world of Death Stranding. While Kojima has remained fairly tight-lipped on his next project, hopes are high after Reedus revealed a Death Stranding 2 is in the works, something that has yet to be confirmed by the developer.

Sharing an on-set image on Twitter, Hideo Kojima recently gave fans an update on what he's currently working on, confirming he's "been revising the plan and script" for an unknown project. While the majority of the photo is blurred, some fans believe that a figure seen in white is Norman Reedus, sharing a similar body type and hairstyle to the Walking Dead star. Others have gone one step further, suggesting that the person seen with their back to the camera is none other than Mads Mikkelsen, another star of Death Stranding. The photo has fuelled fan speculation that the trio is on the set of Death Stranding 2, though Kojima hasn't responded to the claims.

Players of Death Stranding might be hoping for a sequel, but it's worth noting there are a myriad of other possibilities if the blurred figures really are Reedus and Mikkelsen. With The Game Awards 2021 fast approaching, it's possible Kojima and the actors are working on a video presentation for the event as opposed to a new game, with Kojima having close ties to host Geoff Keighley. It's also possible that Kojima's next project isn't game-related at all, and could instead be the first steps in the recently-announced pivot that Kojima Productions is taking into TV and film.

If Reedus, Mikkelsen, and Kojima have once again united for another project, there's also a chance that it could be for a game that isn't Death Stranding-related. Before Death Stranding, Kojima was set to helm a Silent Hill reboot with Konami before the project got canceled. The game would have starred Reedus, who Kojima then cast in the starring role of Death Stranding. The director is seemingly keen to work with the same actors across multiple projects, something also seen when Kojima spoke of creating a video game starring Mads Mikkelsen. This could mean the next Kojima project will be an all-new IP featuring some familiar faces. Fans might have some time to wait to find out just what Kojima is working on, and whether or not it really will star the Death Stranding actors.
