20th Century Studios unveils a new Death on the Nile trailer seeing Kenneth Branagh's Hercule Poirot drawn into a new murder mystery. Based on Agatha Christie's novel of the same name, the film serves as a sequel to Branagh's 2017 adaptation of Christie's Murder on the Orient Express and sees the five-time Oscar nominee return to the helm and front of the camera as eccentric detective Hercule Poirot. Death on the Nile will see Poirot invited aboard the S.S. Karnak for an Egyptian vacation with a picture-perfect couple on their honeymoon, only to subsequently be saddled with the important task of identifying which of the passengers is behind the dead body on board.

Branagh leads the ensemble cast of Death on the Nile alongside fellow returning star Tom Bateman and series newcomers Annette Bening, Gal Gadot, Ali Fazal, Dawn French, Armie Hammer, Rose Leslie, Emma Mackey, Sophie Okonedo, Jennifer Saunders and Letitia Wright. Development on the sequel was announced just a week after the release of Murder on the Orient Express became a smash financial hit for 20th Century Fox, though production wouldn't officially get underway until late 2019 following Disney's acquisition of the former studio. After initially suffering multiple delays due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, Death on the Nile is officially set to hit theaters on February 11.

The new Death on the Nile trailer comes at an interesting point for the film as word has largely gone quiet on the sequel for the past nine months since it was delayed to a February 2022 release. For those eager to see the return of Branagh's Hercule Poirot, the trailer is sure to come as an exciting tease for what's to come from the film, between its claustrophobic setting, large roster of potential suspects and even some humor from the eccentric detective. However, one of the more interesting elements of the Death on the Nile trailer is the downplaying of Armie Hammer's role in the film.

The original Death on the Nile trailer was rife with footage of Hammer's character as he becomes embroiled in a love triangle involving Gadot and Emma Mackey's characters, though his continued involvement became uncertain following multiple rape allegations brought against the actor. It would later be confirmed his part would not be reshot, thus making it understandable the newest trailer seeks to shift the focus away from his work in the film in order to avoid backlash from audiences uncomfortable with the actor remaining a part. Only time will tell how the controversy affects the film's box office chances when Death on the Nile hits theaters on February 11.
