Dear White People released a new teaser trailer for volume 4. The Netflix comedy drama television show follows several Black students at Winchester University as they explore issues involving race relations in a contemporary American landscape. The series is based upon the movie that was released 2014 by the same name. The film's writer/director, Justin Simien, has returned to be involved in the series.

Volume four of the Netflix series was announced back in 2019. Similar to the previous three volumes in the series, there will be a total of 10 episodes in the new season. When the show was renewed two months after the previous season premiered, it was also confirmed that volume four would in fact be the final installment of the series. Volume 3 made a number of changes to the show, which may have resulted in the season not being as well-received as its previous seasons.

The Netflix YouTube channel released the teaser trailer to volume 4. It starts off in the campus radio station, preparing to go on air. As it shows university campus life, it states, "The only way to move forward is to throw it back." As the music kicks in, the song "This Is How We Do It" plays. The trailer also announces that the final season will be a musical. Additionally, it announces the premiere date of September 22. See below for the full clip:

Plenty of shows on non-musical television shows have featured musical scenes or full-length episodes over the years. Titles such as Scrubs to American Horror Story have brought musical elements to their series. Depending on the show and the target audience, it's possible for it to still fit within the story's tone. However, it also has the potential to totally throw off the flow of a television show and pull the viewer out of the universe that has been built over the course of the story.

Fans will be thrilled that a teaser trailer has finally been released for Dear White People volume 4. However, this isn't one of the type of shows that lends well to the style of musicals. Additionally, this isn't simply one episode of it, but judging by the fact the teaser trailer mentions "the musical final season," it appears that the entire season will be just that. Regardless, viewers who have been invested in the show are likely going to watch it to see how the show concludes. The third season is not looked upon as favorably as the first two, so hopefully volume 4 of Dear White People manages to surprise its fans by ending on a strong note.
