Over the weekend, Wonder Woman officially passed Deadpool at the domestic box office, and the Merc with a Mouth took time to praise the latest DCEU entry. Building off the audience's interest in Diana Prince from Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, Gal Gadot's solo film came at the perfect time. Not only has it been the DCEU's first critically praised film, but it has been a box office juggernaut in the weeks since it arrived in cinemas.

Thanks to great word of mouth, Wonder Woman has remained near the top of the box office. Despite opening slightly lower than some other superhero blockbusters, the film has maintained its momentum and gone on to pass several of its fellow comic book-inspired films both domestically and worldwide. The latest (anti)hero to be passed by Diana Prince is none other than Deadpool.

Wonder Woman has officially grossed $368.5M domestically after five weeks in theaters. That total is enough to pass up Deadpool's entire domestic earnings of $363.1M. To celebrate the occasion, the official Twitter account for Deadpool congratulated the film's achievement, but not without having a little fun. Even when presented with a moment to be completely sincere, the film's social media account stayed true to the character's puerile nature. [UPDATE: Wonder Woman director Patty Jenkins has taken to Twitter with her own response.]

The Merc may be filthier, but her B.O. is stronger. Congrats #WonderWoman. pic.twitter.com/jhP1hRAKlY— Deadpool Movie (@deadpoolmovie) July 11, 2017

You are the absolute greatest, Ryan Reynolds @VancityReynolds Thank you! We love you and your movie too. ❤️❤️❤️ #deadpool #deadpool2 ❤️❤️❤️ https://t.co/6Raj3VBEIR— Patty Jenkins (@PattyJenks) July 11, 2017

In addition to passing up Deadpool, the box office haul also makes Wonder Woman the tenth highest-grossing superhero movie domestically. It has a very good chance to pass Spider-Man 2 ($373.6M) and may even surpass Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 ($385.6 and counting), though that might be a bit of a long shot. That said, Wonder Woman has already proven to be a smash hit and has now surpassed the domestic totals of all previous DCEU films.

As for the race between Deadpool and Wonder Woman, the film may have won the domestic battle, and it is closing fast on Fox's R-rated hit internationally. Deadpool's worldwide total sits at $783.1M, while Wonder Woman has earned $745.6M. The film is still set to premiere in Japan, which could be exactly what it needs in order to overtake Deadpool's international numbers as well. All eyes will be on Warner Bros.' impressive superhero effort in the weeks to come. If audiences in Japan are as excited by Wonder Woman as they have been elsewhere, another congratulations from the Merc with a Mouth may be in order..
